Honestly people don’t talk enough about how well 1070 has aged. The 10 series as a whole is absolutely great. Unfortunately I’m running it with a full HDD so I can’t run anything without lag. Waiting on a new pc with 7800 xt and 7600

That 4th gen is still quite capable, particularly i7 variants with hyperthreading. Three PCs in my house that are used for gaming:
i7-4770 / GTX 1070,
i7-4790 / RTX 2060 Super,
Xeon E5-1650 v2 / RX 6650 XT
All great combos.

I have the I7 4790k and the nvidia gtx 1080 works perfectly fine for most modern games when you pare it with the I7

I recently got myself an RX 5700 XT for my PC, and I use an i7 4790. It works really well

Paired this Cpu with an rx 6600, plugged it in a 4k tv. Works wonders. Runs older games at 4k60fps + fsr and newer games at 1440p60fps + fsr. Got it for $140 used

I actually had that same red and black case on my old build, and then when I recently upgraded to a 4080 Super, I gutted that red and black case and rebuilt my new rig in that same case.

Hey 4790K and 980 was my build too! It was suuuuch a champ for a long time. If it wasn’t for CPU or motherboard failure shortly pre-covid pandemic start, it was still handing games quite well.

Wow giving me major flashback to my first ever build.

The fact that I was thinking to upgrade to a combo of i7 4770K (trade blows in single-core performance with 1st and 2nd gen Ryzen Processors) and RX 570 lol. Still the best combo for a budget build.

I’m still using my 4th gen system. I upgraded my 4670k to a 4790, a 1060 3 gb to a 2060, and 8 gb to 16 gb of ram on a 1440p monitor I also got. A cheap bridge upgrade to hold off on a full system upgrade because I don’t do much gaming that would require that right now

I paired my 4770K with a 3070. Best choice of my life, I'm playing every game at 60+ fps in 4K

I have been repping this exact cpu and the gt 980 TI since 2015 and it has still been performing at 1080p pretty well all this time. Only now in 2024 have I started having some dips in new game performance, but then most games have pretty solid upscaling now so it then counteracts that problem.

It's remarkable how well the 980 TI has held its own tbh

I'm running this exact CPU with a RX570 4gb. It's a solid pairing, not CPU limited in most most games. In fact, CPU use typically hovers between 40 and 60% (up to 80% in some games). Could probably go up to a 1070, as Zach says here.
