Asked a friend visiting Japan to try and bring me back a vintage walkman. Gave him $100 for it, told him if it was more, I'd give him more. He brought me back THREE. Apparently they're super common.

For the fluff, try taking some isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip and rub the tape head down a little bit to remove any magnetic annoyance. When I buy gummed up tape players it always works.

I love how people really kinda rediscover the magic of an actual audio cassette. Including me. I recently got myself a walkman from the late 80‘s and it‘s just amazing. Can‘t go anywhere anymore without it in my pocket

Ive owned a Walkman for about four years now, and have been carrying it to work with me for one and a half. Its honestly my favorite way to experience music.

I can’t look at a walk-man without thinking about Star-Lord, so I’m glad you played the tape that had ELO’s Mr. Blue Sky

Got do I love these old Walkmans. I have a WM-3 from '81 that I mostly take to college and when I go out and about. Most people like it and find it interesting to see a 19 year old with something this old

I am such a big ELO fan so the love for the boys is so so so appreciated by me. Hearing Night in the City on a Dank Pods vid is CRAZY

the thing about cassettes and vhs, is due to their composition, the tapes will gradually decrage, sometimes faster under humid conditions. i remember an anedoctal story about how the original master copies of the Macross/Robotech series was nearly destroyed due to a flood

Sadly the 1st walkman wasn't designed to be mindblowing.
Small history lesson, the 1st walkman was unamed hence why its known as the "TPS-L2" as they were expecting the product to totally flop.

So they rehoused a "tape counter/ pressman" and removed its record function then threw it into the world

Only in 1981 when the 1st Walkman to get the Wakman name the "Walkman WM-2" did sony make a machine from the ground up for audio listening and it was a huge leap.
In quality, size and parts

1: if they werent already these players are like 45 years old now, put a new belt in it or it will sound like crap
2: the sound quality is probably because the pinch rollers are ran-through and need serious cleaning or replacement, and i noticed on mine its developed serious capacitor problems. worth replacing those close-to 50 year old bad boys. also clean the volume sliders, one of the first things i did on mind and it did improve it quite a bit
PS clean the tape head, its crazy how dirty they get and how much it affects sound quality, just a q-tip and ISP alcohol will do wonders

and on an unrelated note if you want the best, most over-engineered walkman around, get a wm-7, its sound quality is amazing, its the first auto reverse player, first with logic controls, and holds up really well compared to a full-fledged cassette deck (its also really slept on, prices arent too crazy for them yet)

i was looking throught my dad's old stuff and found one of these. he died when i was seven, and finding his old tapes and walkman helped me get to know who he was years after his death. really cool to see one of these being explored :>

I honestly love Frank. And that green iPad 4 made me go on Amazon and buy one. I works great. You are right though, it is preeeety slow. Especially since it came with iOS 10. Only $100 USD though, so that's not bad. Oh yeah, and the dingusPod (the gold one) inspired me to pick one up brand new not a month before the iPod was discontinued entirely. I may not be a patron but I am CERTAINLY a fan.

The TPS-L2 is a dream player of mine, it really is the quintessential Walkman. Would also be nice to compare to my WM-EX510, a late Walkman

2 things:
Either the head is dirty
Or the head is worn and needs replacing.

If you give a man a normal vid, he’ll eat for a day. Give a man an after show and he’ll eat for however many aftershows he didn’t watch on Patreon
