My late mother was told you have to change the meter, when the engineer came he advised us its BS and stay with the older technology.
I suspect they want the ability to cut your supply remotely.

I recieved a phone call from octopus energy, asking if i wanted a smart meter, i declined. He then said he wouldnt have one, let that sink in !!

You can refuse a smart meter, I did and got a good old fashioned one fitted when ours broke

I'm with them and they keep on at me to get a smart meter. Someone i know has had nothing but problems with there smart meter and they keep estimating his Bill. He uses the off peak time and his bills are higher now than they ever been. Tell them to do one like I did and if they keep on at me I'll change to British GAS.

I have been refusing a smart meter for years, now the provider says the meter is now out of date and requires a new one, but it will be a smart meter, I said I dont want a smart meter, and so it continues

My old meter has now gone around the clock and is starting with 000.... It's legit to keep using even if it has gone past the and started at the beginning again.

A smart meter allows thwm to change tariffs without telling you. They can also cut you off remotely.

I got those emails from Octopus too. When I queried them about the exact "sell-by date" on my meter I was told it's some time in 2032 or 3.
