The thing on their thumbs is a "thumb pick". Buck Trent was another world-class stringed instrument player. He toured with Roy Clark on occasion. He and Roy Clark were twice named the Country Music Association Instrumental Group of the Year (1975, 1976). For those who may not know, playing the guitar and playing the banjo is entirely different. The fingerings and chord patterns are not similar. It's amazing to me how someone can get that good at both instruments, much less all the others that Roy Clark played (and Trent Buck, too.)

I miss the great variety shows of ‘60’s & 70’s!!

This came from the old TV series Hee Haw. Buck Trent played with Porter Wagoner for years. Porter started the career of Dolly Parton. One thing about country music is there is a lot of humor in it. The entertainers know how to play a crowd and they are masters at work. Some, if not most, have never had a music lesson in their lives and seem to be born knowing how to play. Great reaction and BP you keep broadening your musical knowledge by digging into these classics.

Roy co-hosted a 1960s country-themed variety show (variety shows were big back in the '60s) with Buck Owens called "Hee-Haw." It was a show that nobody would admit to watching, but if you ever mentioned a bit from it, everybody knew exactly what you were taking about! Roy was a phenomenally talented musician, and he was also a great comedian; his facial expressions were legendary. He always looked like a little boy who was up to some mischief! What they were wearing on their fingers were metal picks so they could play in that style. This song rose to prominence in the '70s after its use in the film "Deliverance."

Roy Clark is extremely underrated when people talk about the best guitarists. He was phenomenal on everything he played.

Grew up watching Hee-Haw, hence Roy Clark and the rest. BUT, did you know, Steve Martin, the actor, is one of the best Banjo players in the world these days? You should check him out.

Roy Clark is one of the best guitar players to ever live, he also plays numerous stringed instruments--including the banjo. I was lucky enough to get to meet on several occasions, and actually hang out with him on a 4th of July down at Whitehorn Cove on Lake Fort Gibson with the late great Billy Parker.

"Stringbean", and "Grampa Jones" were early pioneers of the banjo!

When I was kid I thought Roy Clark was a funny guy that played guitar. Found out as I grew up that he was a world class musical talent that was really funny. Love Roy Clark.
