I remember seeing this when the movie came out. Everyone in the theater clapped and cheered when the spaceship finally went down.

I saw this with my Mom and Dad on opening weekend with a packed house back in '96. My parents were kind of 'old school' when it came to entertainment but they really enjoyed ID4 and cheered with the rest of the people in the theater for scenes like these. My Dad would pass away about 2-1/2 months later but I remember just having a good time watching this with my Mom and Dad.

This movie is hands down my favorite. It came out when I was 11 years old and every Independence Day since then I end up running into this film. Now with kids I at times mess with my son and say we celebrated the 4th to recognize the day the whole world said “We will not go quietly into the night!”
