Why Is Apple Getting Rid Of iTunes?

It was recently revealed at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference that iTunes would no longer exist in macOS Catalina. Instead, most of iTunes functionality would be broken up between three different apps: Music, Podcasts, and Apple TV. In a very controversial, but necessary move. And this has left many people wondering why Apple would get rid of iTunes at all. I mean, why not continue calling the application iTunes instead of simply Music? After all, iTunes has accumulated name recognition and has a very important place in Apple’s history. Why would they not capitalize on the iTunes brand? Also, isn’t Apple all about keeping things simple and not fragmenting their services? So why are they turning one application, iTunes, into three different apps? Some people may consider that to be unnecessarily complicated. But in this video we’re going to explore why breaking up and ending iTunes was the best decision Apple could’ve made.

iTunes is hella nostalgic. Takes me right back to being 13 when everyone was paying 1.29 per song.... those days went by so fast man

3:47 "By 2015, iTunes had become a bloated shadow of its former self. It was slow, resource-heavy, and difficult to navigate."

Me too, iTunes. Me too.

Glad I can still buy my music. I look at it like buy my music VS leasing my music. I like to own my shit not rent.

I only use iTunes as a music player. I haven't experienced any slow performance due to it being bloated...

They’re not, it’s just going to have a new name and User interface, separated into Podcasts and Music I think

Apple didn't create iTunes from scratch. They bought an existing piece of software called SoundJam MP.

Music store is not down, all I needed to know. I know in the current climate, streaming seems like a better option but I really love collecting CD albums.

I still use it personally, especially when I’m syncing my iPod nano so I can listen without using my phone’s battery.

I'm actually blown away because for about a year, I've been wishing that iTunes would be split up into different apps. I never thought it would ever happen, but can't be any more happy that it is. Having all those different services in one app was more than unnecessary.

"After all isn't Apple about keeping things simple"
Hilarious.

I think Apple should have kept iTunes as a separate launcher (for all music apps, and all the new apps) for audiophiles right next to the Launchpad.

I dont mind the change - it might even give us a breath of fresh air... I personally never used the podcasts or TV (I just never used them nonetheless) and since the integration with the iTunes library is so seamless, well, than that's a bonus! ;)

U keep bloating iTunes until it become a mega operating system, that's the solution 😂
