Apple has come under fire in recent years for intentionally slowing down older iPhones, so in this video I’m going to explain why they do it.

The reason why they did it made sense, the fact that they did not put out a statement informing customers beforehand and providing an option switch was what got them so much criticism.

Slowing down iPhones without informing customers was poor practice by Apple. Customers want transparency. Adding the override switch was the right thing to do and is what they should have done in the first place.

This is all true. BUT, Apple never told their users they were doing this. That was the problem.

Ridiculous defense. Just because you're a fan, doesn't mean you have to defend even the most ridiculous practices of a company.

Guess what? Simple solution: go back to removable and easily replaceable batteries. But these dishonest companies won't do that, because they're doing anything they can to force users to upgrade.

Why don’t iPads have battery health in settings? I have three of them, and it’s a neat thing to know!

Ive been trying to explain this to my customers for years. Makes it much easier to clarify.

My Grandpa says his 6S Plus is still running like new… but when I look at it, the screen looked like it wanted to commit suicide.

Even for a tech enthusiast, you always provide more info than enough. Thanks Greg !

It’s funny to see some comments jabbing at the regular 6s when the 6s plus I have still works like it did the day I bought it. Nobody seems to really talk about the plus model of the 6s and how much better it seems to perform even with the updates over the years. Regardless it’s understandable why Apple did what they did but transparency would’ve been the better route to take.

Apple should explain before hand to users if they do something like that to people’s phones. Great video explaining ... and you are right replacing the battery save old iPhones and also help the planet

I like how you got straight to the point instead of unnecessarily stretching the video to over 10 minutes.

Nice explanation and it makes sense. It’s a shame Apple wasn’t transparent about this with users and only admitted to it, once public backlash became big enough.

I have an iPhone 8 and after 4 years it functions well. When it'll die I'll probably change the battery / buy a new one eventually. Thanks for the nice video.

I don’t know, bro…
My iPad is dead because of this issue.
It’s so slow, it takes me over 40 seconds just to open up my web browser…

And I can’t update it to the OS where “peak performance” mode was added.
This is indeed an example to predatory sales tactics. It is not as justifiable as you made it seem.

What they’re doing seems reasonable with good reasoning behind it. My old 6s was still decently fast after 4 years the battery just wasn’t great, makes sense now why.
