Yeah and also this "fungal acne" has quite a specific symptoms - for example: it's itchy and burning, it's in clusters, it doesn't look like specific acne etc.

everything you've said is correct!! of course there will be people who get defensive without even watching the video, because self-diagnosis is being more accepted when really it should be a sign of how bad access to healthcare and education is. idk why but it feels like so many "trends" like detoxifying and "wellness" are always targetting young women in a hope that they will get worse at critical thinking when it comes to the beauty industry. if we learn to think critically about it, then we can clearly see that a dermatologist's expertise is more likely to get it right over self-diagnosis/strangers on the internet (plus actually have the access to prescribe/do tests).

obviously there are a lot of issues with healthcare, there are also a lot of times dermatologists or doctors may get it wrong. that's obviously an issue, and healthcare can vary a lot by country. but the statistical chance is that you are *far* more likely to get it wrong from self-diagnosis. people are statistically unreliable on evaluating themselves correctly. never mind not spending years/decades in a medical background.

the only point of getting a diagnosis is to get treatment or know what is the best approach. without that, it's a meaningless label. plus, you could spend even more money with products in the beauty industry through trial and error, that have very little scientific trials to back up what they claim.

also, i can't believe it costs so much for epiduo in the US!! i'm in the UK, but in scotland. i am about to go to the pharmacy to ask for more epiduo as it had run out, and they will prescribe this to me for free! the scheme is called pharmacy first here, so it's only certain things the pharmacy can prescribe without a doctor prescription obviously like acne medication. but all medication here is free (unless someone bought it from a private pharmacy online, which would be silly to do lol). even private pharnacies in england, epiduo is £30/$38. i was thinking how expensive that was until i heard you say how much it is in the us lol.

So it's just using the term acne for a fungal infection that's wrong?

I mean people should just try an otc antifungal medication and if it works great, it was a fungal infection, if not then look into other diagnoses

Going through this right now..out of nowhere both cheeks covered in a bunch of tiny bumps. I can’t see a Derm right now . Trying to use things that can treat both FA AND CC..so..yeah it sucks so bad. I was on antibiotics somewhat recently so maybe it has something to do with it. I completely agree with you that people over diagnose FA!!

this reality is really sad because that's the point of studying medicine for years: to be able to help people with your plus 10 years worth of knowledge and continuing education even when you're already a full-fledged doctor. this is actually a very good video for awareness! additionally, with skin issues, a dermatologist requires an ACTUAL face to face assessment because so many skin conditions can look similar on photos. true, the current situation isn't ideal for person to person consultation but still just the reality of what i said above should give people that double-take when placing their health in their own hands.
