Today's learning is heavy moisturizers and sunscreens don't increase oil production but they increase sweat that can cause skin problem

I saw a significant difference in my skin when I switched to “fungal acne safe products”.

Wow! I'm going to the dermatologist tomorrow to search what it is. I have this "acne" in all my face, neck, and breasts. It's horrible and it itches so much.

Thanks for mythbusting this topic! I run into problems with this when I use a water resistant sunscreen on my face and then exercise outside in humid weather. My face gets overheated and sweats a ton. So excited that you mentioned Aviclear! I was told that because Isotretinoin failed for me, Aviclear would fail as well. I'm still super oily after 2 courses of Accutane 20-25 years ago.

Dr Dray, good topic. You mentioned nothing feeds malassezia. Could you please address the research that shows malassezia feeds on fatty acids with carbon chain lengths 12-24?

I have found avoiding fatty acids, especially stearic acid and isopropyl palmitate, have greatly improved my folliculitus.

I totally believe you Dr Dray but I do prefer Fungal Acne safe skincare. I found it works for me as a good baseline of finding less irritating skincare. 😢

I indeed used Nizoral shampoo on my scalp and as you suggested on my face and fungal acne disappeared within days. And the maintenance is essential. Thank you for the information!!!

This condition is a nightmare. Dr. Drey is right about immunodeficiency. I developed an adult-onset immunodeficiency after getting infected with cold sores orally in adulthood. I started to have autoimmune reactions to the fungus that overgrew, which ironically causes not only more inflammation and rosacea type symptoms, but extra oil in my skin, which then causes more fungus... It is a constant loop that never ends and then the cold sores flare and get into the fungal acne and cause superinfections. It's almost like I am allergic to my sebum.

I feel the best when I exfoliate and just leave my face with no products on it. I'm getting towards middle age and would love to use moisturizers or creams to protect my skin, but even the most sensitive lightweight brands do not absorb into my skin (on my face). I don't know why this is. But because they don't absorb in, they trap the regular oil production underneath, which then causes this insanity to begin again. Any hair oil or face product with coconut oil causes an explosion of this stuff too for me. I hate keeping my skin intentionally dry all the time, but it's the only way I get any relief other than weekly plasma infusions.

Since starting perimenopause my back and chest have been covered in this too due to the sweat from night-sweats. I have been to 12 dermatologists who say they don't know what is wrong. Tried Youtube recommendations for fungal acne and finally started to see improvements. I also was getting those weird white spots and I thought it was just scarring but I think it is tinea veriscolor now that it has been mentioned. Not enough derms seem to know how to handle immunodeficient patients. Videos like this have been more helpful than seeing an actual doctor.

I agree that self diagnosis is not preferable here, but I have been to doctors who couldn’t just figure it out and kept prescribing anti acne topical treatments. It started with me in 2018, in the face and neck, it was very very itchy, I live in a hot dry climate btw but it’s too hot that you sweat a lot. I tried everything and nothing worked until I started to use FA combating products like Ketoconazole, and stopped using anything with Fatty acids and esters, and within just few weeks it was completely gone. Ofc it is on and off but it never got so ugly like before. My question is, what about the ingredients they keep recommending to avoid for FA like the fatty acids and ester and Peg-20 and so on? Please elaborate on why some ppl say that these ingredients feed the oils and yeast?
Recently I started using the Cerave Moisturizing Cream which is not FA safe, but it is perfectly fine with me, here when I started to question whether they’re really FA safe products or not! Maybe the issue is how to control the oils in the skin and how to effectively use the skincare products. By the way I have dry to combination acne prone skin!
Thank you so much

Request for pharmaceutical companies: ketoconozol rinse! I’m so sick of standing freezing in the shower for 5 mins waiting for the shampoo to soak into my back

Dr drey, but oils feed fungal skin conditions, so how do you mean ingredients don't feed it?

Even oils on the scalp are bad if you have dandruff

Great video. There are many online sites that talk about this issue. Some make product recommendations on what you can & cannot use. You just answered my question on how you feel about this info on using only certain products. Totally agree a lot of body lotions and creams are to heavy for face, especially if you have seb derm & rosacea. Many thanks for this great info!
