I had both tvs in my bright living room with 4 windows in background. I'm happy to report the LG now resides there permanently. The G4 is that good, regardless of the reflections

Hi Paul. Thanks for this comparison. Sincerely between what I consider a small reflection and the respect of black levels, I prefer that blacks remains deep. The advantage of the S95D will mainly be seen when viewed laterally, with daylight. So not most of the time.

Thanks to your great review of the LG 65g4. I’ve just purchased one through your link to Peter Tyson. Should be here tomorrow 😊

To be fair, you have the G4 directly in line with the window. Doesn’t the Samsung get pretty foggy looking if it is up where the LG is? It looked very washed out at the store but those are particularly bright lights.

I keep going back and forth on these two. I’ve got a G4 on order due to the current deal and blue light discount, but I can’t help but feel like the S95D would be perfect for my living room. It’s a shame the image processing on the Samsung is worse also

LG G4 GLOSS FOR SUPREME PICTURE QUALITY 👌 👍

Can't have the best of both worlds. LG's contrast is deep and punchy while S95D with the coating looks slightly more dull and grainy because of the matte display, but alot wider colour volume. See the woman at the start. Can barely spot a difference between the seats and her top in the LG, but her top is orange in the Samsung while seats are red. QD with a glossy panel is absolute fire though.

I love my s95d. I couldn't play games or movies doing the day on a glossy screen. My s95d doesn't look washed out showing inky blacks, and is the best tv I have tried so far for my needs. I do need a soundbar but other then that the tv is awesome.

What's the fascination with reflection on the televisions?

Would’ve been better if it was in a sunny day and touch the ambient lighting to see which one better sunlight not direct sunlight. The reflection handling is something different but I would like to see how sunshine runs out there black level and how the Samsung copes with that.

G4 has its faults. My G4 has the web browser and some apps randomly crash. Also sometimes when I go into settings menu it runs slow then freezes and I have to powerdown upnplug and start up again.
This brings me to another problem, which is that it loses the sound output settings. I have LG soundbar on earc with speakers on the tv enabled as well. On restart it turns the tv speakers off, and if I do not intervine it will connect to a bluetooth speaker system that I use to listen to music, even though those were not used before the TV was turned off. The latest firmware version for my set has been installed, when I check no updates are available. Whilst the picture may me very good these other issues that I have are somewhat disappointing and quite frankly not acceptable with a TV of this price.

Glossy is the best still, I love looking at the LG oled screen, while samsung just makes me feel meh. Just get some black out curtains and nothing to worry about

What makes oled TVs the best tvs to buy?

Of course the G4 will have more reflections due to its glossy screen verses the Samsung that has a matte screen.

Glossy screens are used for best picture quality. But of course matte screens are usefull as well.

For work laptop I prefer matte screen. I would also like to have matte screen on my phone and tablet as well. Why? Because I use them mostly in bright environment and glossy screen is very distracting for me.

As for TV glossy screen is ok imho. I want best picture quality possible and I'm watching TV mostly when it's dark anyway. And in case of using it during the day there is always window curtain :)

Matte coatings no matter how good the panel always dulls the image quality.I wish samsung would abandon this in their next iteration and rather improve their anti reflection on glossy panels instead. Also the processing and upscaling is inferior to the G4.

Wow! The LG G4 looks more colorful than the Samsung in real world performance despite being W-OLED. Wasn't expecting that. 😮
