The Metropolitan Police has expressed "regret" over the arrest of six protesters in London before the coronation.

Leader of the anti-monarchy group Republic, Graham Smith, was among six people detained by officers, who seized items that they believed could be used as lock-on devices.

"We regret that those six people arrested were unable to join the wider group of protesters in Trafalgar Square and elsewhere on the procession route," the Met said in a statement

“We’re kinda regretful we did a fascism.”

2:10 - The news presenter is essentially saying that the police think it's reasonable to be 'heavy handed' towards peaceful, lawful protesters when VIP's are present but that it's not reasonable to be 'heavy handed' when they VIP's are not present!
This is a ridiculous, draconian, inconsistent & probably unlawful policing!
How can it be acceptable in a Western democracy, that the only exception where police can be overly-forceful against protestors is when such excessive force accommodates the elite!
This is disproportionate narcissistic elitism!
The UK has always 'pretended' to be a democracy, but in reality it isn't & never was, the people are not 'free' & there is no such thing as 'free speech' & never was!
Citizens rights extend only as far as the corrupt government can tolerate, to appease the elite!

"causing chaos" such a precise and elaborate definition of crime. Stirring tea in a cup is causing chaos too, physicist would argue.

They regret nothing about the arrests. Type something offensive online and the police will be at your door in record pace, even if they aren't threats.

Meanwhile they can't be bothered to turn up to burglaries, and it's okay for people stink of a certain substance everywhere, because they're too busy dealing with weak rubbish like dolls in windows, or because someone called someone else a mean word over the internet and hurt the wittle baby's feelings.

British citizens excersizing their right to protest in a supposedly free and democratic country, are swiftly arrested and bundled into the back of vans by police. This is worrying.

it's amazing the police don't regret arresting people for a so called 'offensive tweet'

It's easier to seek forgiveness than ask for permission.

"POlice regret massive backlash over arrests" - That seems like a more accurate title.

Basically a state police with unlimited powers to harass and persecute, even preemptively, as only mere "suspicion" is needed. Whatever their arbitrary definition of suspicion, that is... like wearing a yellow top? Looking at them in a perceived funny way? Walking too briskly perhaps? Now they have free reign to determine what a "threat" is and are completely unaccountable, as their impudent response shows.

64 were supposedly arrested, they're only apologising for 6 of them. Are they really sorry?

The most regrettable of all? The parasitic monarchy.

These orders definitely came straight from Suella and Sunak.

They arrested them at the spot they reserved for the protest

They got what they wanted. Apologies are not enough. We need an investigation.

I didn't see them do very much to clear the oil protests when roads are shut down. I didn't see them do much when statues were pulled down. I didn't see them do much with the grooming gangs.
