Luke is right on all his suggestions. I had a full rupture of my right distal bicep tendon, and I used to go heavy on preacher curls. I don't do them anymore at all, but if you do only slow, controlled reps, you'll most likely avoid injuring your tendons. (btw, I had the surgery and a full recovery)

That being said, I wouldn't recommend going to full extension on this machine or a preacher pad of any kind. That full extension puts too much stress on the tendon when your arm is braced like that. I would recommend doing any other type of curl where your arm is free to move a little. Spider curls, regular standing curls, whatever. You can go to full extension without the tendon taking the full force of the weight.

i love these but man its terrifying doing them and having like 50 vids flash in your mind of a bicep tear
i do think most people who tear muscles in general are egolifting or they have weak tendons relative to their muscle strength (ie. PED users)

That actually makes a lot of sense. I kinda reduced my biceps training cause of the “popping” videos. A lot of these guys are in a rush.

also never do it with heavy weights. there's too much stress to your joints in the beginning of the lift because of the position of your arms, that's why a bicep tear is VERY rare if you do a normal standing still bicep curls with dumbbells for example.

Also full ROM. Some people do those half reps with preacher curls and after awhile their arms can’t handle the weight in that lower position which already has bad leverage for your bicep.

If you cant start the move from overextension, you have too much weight. If you can, then ur safe as long as u go down slow.

regardless of anything, if you are not on roids it is SO HARD to tear your biceps doing preacher curls (machine).

Less weight, more reps. Your biceps is shorter in the elbow forward position, that's why its harder for your muscle to work, and that's why people make a mistake of curling too many weights.

Aaaand, of course, don't do anabolics. Tears are more likely when on enhancements, because the muscle develops unnaturally fast and the tendons are not up to speed and cannot handle the same tension.
