It will be interesting to see how these roles impact lower rated players. I have spent most of my time this year playing with a Middlesbrough EVO team and I have worked hard to level them up. However, I have noticed that even though some of them are 97, 98, 99 rated cards now, the base mechanics still impact how they perform.

Most started out as silvers and you can just tell they are not quite the same as the Messi or Ronaldo cards, even with all the upgrades.

05:25 This is the same as FC 24, it's just cut inside. EA likes to hype old features. In FC 25 you can still do flick-up volley, corner kicks are still OP, pressure tactics is still the same

Just to clarify what these Role +/++ familiarities do, in case anyone is still confused: Role Familiarity works basically as a combination of work rate and Attack Position/Defensive Awareness. Having a Role++ does not boost things like pace, shooting, passing, defending, etc. But it does boost how quickly the AI controlled player will transition from attack into defense, or defense into attack (work rate) and it does boost their positioning/runs (Attack Positioning/Defensive Awareness).

I don't think Role +/++ will be quite as important in the attack, but it absolutely will be the meta for which defenders people put in their squads. If AI defending stays as nerfed as it was in the beta, people who like to rely on the AI sprinting back and tracking runs for them are going to need those Role++ defenders or they will get cooked.

I'm looking forward to inventing my own style of play but people copying meta codes really defeats the idea of labelling it 'IQ' because those who can't devise a tactic obviously have 0 haha

This Role ++ kind of limits your formation. You no longer can start say Vini on LW and switch him to ST in 352 formation because he won't have role++ at striker....He now has to be a winger who cuts forward

These new additions make it easier for EA to make old cards irrelevant and control the power curve, as seen with PS+ last year

Overall, i think it does make the game more fun and progressive, but it makes re releases pointless. No one wants a 1 PS+ card with non meta IQ traits when we will already have 2 PS+ amd meta IQ

There’s nothing new about this. It’s EA again repackaging the same thing we already have and adding AI to it. So they don’t have to ever fix the gameplay issues. They are just going to keep doing this without ever addressing any of the drop back and game play issues.

i think it will affect how much people play players out of position as they currently do in FC24. Playing Joselu as a RB won't be as affective, But maybe Role++ evolutions where you can add roles to players will be an aspect that changes this?

It's a good idea, but I am sceptical about it will perform. Take for example the problems we have seen with custom tactics, formations and instructions in the past years when it comes to the meta. It had to be the right custom tactic with a exact width and depth, etc., using the right formation for said tactic and the right player instructions. But if you somehow decided to change just variable, another formation that was not meta or the wrong players/instructions your team was pretty much unusable then. I am afraid that the new system will enhance the problems I mentioned

So the question is how is it gonna effect formation change during game? For example Vini on default tactic 4 3 3 is left winger world class but then as the game starts you switch to 41212 and he became a CAM so then is he gonna be a world class on CAM or not? Is the default position and role matters or all tactical formation change will have effect on players?

Why bother talking about roles and play styles of the gameplay is not good? Roles is just another feature to promote cards and pack opening and not focusing of the gameplay

Sharing tactics is controversial? I guess I've played too many games where sharing team codes is the norm to try out new stuff. The community will come around on that, it's only a good thing. I'm not grabbing the game on launch but I hope the new tactics changes do work out, will massively up my enjoyment of the game (that's if they actually work as intended)
