I’m surprised some people only heard about Sakura microns recently from TikTok. I always thought they were the most hyped fine liners in the art community. I don’t do use them for art but they’re great for journaling too

How can someone NOT know about the micron markers!?! I've been using them for so long!!

The sakura microns are great but personally they didnt last very long, and this is coming from someone who treats their supplies VERY well. They're great while they last but keep in mind that they're quite sensitive, don't try to layer them on top of other media like paint (dry obviously) or prismacolors.

I use Microns a lot. Started using them far before tiktok. They’re some of my favorite fineliners simply for their range in sizes for the type of pen they are. I’d say that they’re worth the price, yet I’m aware of tiktok’s weird obsession with some of the most expensive art supplies on the market (Caran d’Ache pencils, Copic markers, Winsor and Newton paint, etc). I’m sure that there’s a cheaper alternative that produces the same effect!

I used to think that rotrings were the worst because I had an uncle that went to college for drafting and architecture. He used those rotring isograph pens religiously for everything he ever did, so he had a junk box full of them. When I was around 10 or 12 I took a handful of those junk pens thinking I could be a great artist if I had these fancy sounding pens.

Of course they were empty, jammed, dry, or broken in some way since they came from a junk box. Rather than connecting the dots, I just assumed that all technical pens were terrible for years. I eventually bought one on accident while I was getting fineliners and decided I wasn't going to waste it so I put it in my pocket journal. The instant I used it, I set it with my main art supplies and have loved them ever since.

Those extremely thin fineliners used to be sold in specialist shops for doing blueprints with precise details. The official standards for official blueprints require specific line widths for specific things, and draftsmen like to use sizes that scale to the next size when photocopying up or down 1 paper size.

You can make cold press ground, too - by mixing gesso and modeling paste! It’s worth it to buy the mixed ground but as long as you measure & get the proportions right mixing it yourself is awesome too!

I ink with the 0.05 and 0.1 ALL the time. I bought the 0.03 purely for my mini sketchbook pieces hehe

Microns got popular on tiktok?

Tf was I using 10 years ago then? 😂😂😂
But glad to see little ones find good supplies, microns were my treasure before digital art.

Saw a DIY art hack with the cold press ground... they painted a light shade and did an amazing watercolour drip style on it. It was gorgeous

Use a silicone face scrubber at the bottom of a mason jar to clean your brushes

I’m surprised you just found the micron pens! They’ve been around for a while! I remember my papa using them when he used to tattoo

Microns have been the backbone of the yt art community for years. I remember being so proud of the pack I got for Christmas I used my gray bedsheets as a background and posted an attempt at a professional-looking picture to show them off

I got my Microns YEARS ago as a Christmas present in highschool. I can further back up the hype for them! They're seriously amazing and I don't think I could ever use anything else after these babies 😭💖

The Cold Ground is also nice to mix into paint to give added texture to your pieces where needed 👌🏼

The thing about those microns is you really want to be careful to not press down on them. You need a very light hand (hard for me, I have a very heavy hand when I draw ) and you're going to need a few of them to finish one larger piece. I love them, they are fun to use, but I wanted to put that out there for people who have never used them.

I switched to reusable copic just because you can change the nibs before the ink runs out. With those I don't think you can replace the nibs and a lot of the time they will wear down before the ink runs out.
