The whirlpools can get a lot larger than this, it gets really deep the further away you get from any islands, may take a few minutes to reach deeper waters though (a lot deeper)

whirlpools are probably one of my biggest fears, imagine chilling quite literally having the time of your life and then you see the ocean spinning in a giant death vortex of succ that you pretty much stand no chance of escape or surviving if caught in one I bet that shit is horrible the moment you hit the bottom you instantly get hit with the pressure along with the speed of the water and the shock of the cold because of how deep down it then for however long you're alive you get to think about the fact you're literally spinning mach speed deep af in some water which a lot of people already hate just thinking about that
