hate it when people are saying this is the next titanic... titanic actually sank.. alot more people died.. only similarity was that it is alot of money going under water... 800 million dollars for insurance on the hull alone

What happened isn't even remotely close to being what happened to the titanic. The titanic actually sunk killing over 1500 people. The Cordia flipped over on it's side and only a few dozens were killed. It's four thousand passengers didn't drown and are safe.

what happened on costa concordia would have been like titanic. had the wind that night come from the island she would have been sunk in 30 minutes to 1 hour, the rescue took 5, so about one fifth of those 4000 passengers would have died. this disaster could have been much much worse, out doing titanics disaster by alot, thats the only reason so many people suvived this disaster

This happens on a second shift and most likely the duty officer is the 3rd mate with a duty helmsman. Im sure this ship is in auto pilot and not by manual coz they already left the other port and cruising. This is clearly a one stupid mistake not checking the chart, this ship has designed route and they only follow the course and every 15 mins or less they check the position, its so damn of an officer not to see where he is heading if he only check the map. @Prim3StaR The abandon ship signal is one long blast on all ships. The exact tone of the signal differs. This sound clip, however was taken from aboard a Royal Caribbean ship and appears to be an exact match for that video mentioned.
