I worked on a cruise ship as a youth staff…around dusk saw two teenagers doing handstands off the railing of the top track level and ran over to them to stop them. One guy told me “what? it’s just water if I fall.” I told him you could break bones this far up and 2nd this ship can’t just stop to find you and what if it circles the wrong way and you get crushed or sucked under?? They look stunned.
Anyway, I marched these kids to my manager. He called their parents and his dad cried when he found out and confronted his kid.
I feel happy to know I possibly stopped a tragedy from happening that night.

We just got back from a cruise. Looking over the edge of the ship at night into the vast dark ocean was absolutely terrifying. Absolutely Pitch Black

Being stranded in the middle of the ocean seems like a nightmare

I was on a cruise where a staff member went missing. Sadly he did go overboard during the night and the ship did turn around but because they didn’t know what time he was lost, there was no hope. Our rooms were all searched one by one in the hope that he was just fraternising with a guest. Another staff member I talked to on that cruise said some of the staff are on those cruise ships for many months on end for poor pay….and they miss their families. I’ll never forget that and I just feel so sorry for his family 😞

"It is impossible to fall off a cruise ship.
You would have to do something incredibly stupid" says it all. Stupidity has no limitations.

I was on a cruise where a man “fell” overboard. No one knew. He was spotted by passengers on another cruise ship 24hrs after his plunge. It’s a miracle that he was seen and saved.

My parents, both from the Caribbean warned me to, “Respect the Ocean and money. If you turn your back on either, they will drown and consume you”. 🙏🏾

A friend of mine fell off of a ferry, 60ft into The North Sea in the dead of night. She was rescued eventually, lived to tell the tale.

One of the scariest situations ever for that individual. Don't go near the edge with a person who secretly hates you, vacations tend to bring out the worst in people belive it or not

I am an Operation Specialist in the U.S. Navy and I’m trained to find a person who fell or have jumped overboard. To turn around to find that person’s location could take up to 45 minutes or more..by that time, that person might have gotten sucked under and chopped up by the propeller, died upon impact with the water, eaten by sea creatures, or suffered form hypothermia, to name a few. Majority of the times, the person is never found.

My boyfriend and I went to Costa Rica. They told us not to leave the resort unless we were with a guide, but I let my boyfriend convince me it would be ok to take a taxi to this small town not far away. We found this American guy who took tourists out on his boat to snorkel or whatever. After talking to him about cost, etc...we were ready to go. Then I got this feeling in my gut that told me do not get one a boat with a stranger from a small village in a foreign country. This guy could have been a felon for murder who fled the US and was on the run. I honestly believe if we had gone we wouldn't have returned. So then we started walking around and looking at souvenirs and we were being followed by several shady looking people. This town was really small, it had one road with small shacks and I'm sure no policing. The locals looked like they were pissed at us. We got the hell out of there pretty fast. My dummy boyfriend was totally clueless. Needless to say, it was over with him before the vacation even ended.

You can't just inadvertently fall off a cruise ship. People are either drunk, want to end their lives, get pushed off, or horse playing and fall off. Either way, you'll probably die because those ships are so large that they can't stop. Take it seriously, people. Cruise responsibly.

When I was a kid at 4 years old on an interisland ferry the wind blew me over the rail but older sibling pulled me back. I remember looking straight down the side of the ship and the water was very dark. Thanks to sister.

All passengers should carry a tracking bracelet with a panic button.

I've worked as a merchant mariner for 20 years. We do rescue drills where we throw a big orange raft overboard and then we practice turning the ship around and trying to spot the raft. It is extremely difficult to find the location of anything without a positioning device, even under perfect conditions like we had during drills

We have reached a scary point in society where it truly doesn’t matter if we have labels or warning signs.

Nothing would convince me to go on one of those cruise ships. Ever.
In August 1969 I emigrated to Canada from the U.K. on a liner called The Empress of England. I'm terrified of the ocean, can't swim and hate deep water. I remember enjoying the voyage until I was on the top deck looking around and realizing how vulnerable our ship was, nothing around us in all directions but endless water!! I scurried back to the dining hall and distracted myself with some of the delicious food and drinks. The movie "Titanic" was a horror movie for me!

The title says “What Happens If You Fall …?”, and your answer in the video “Make sure you don’t fall”. Great advice. Thanks!

I’m happy just taking a little river cruise. Never been on an ocean liner. Probably never will be. I’m 62. Back when “The Poseidon Adventure” first premiered in theaters in 1972, my mom took me to see it. I’ll always remember the scenes where that big cruise ship flipped over, capsizing and flooding inside. I’ll stick with riverboats.
