Nothing scares me more than being lost at sea, or being out there during a storm. The ocean is merciless but this was outstanding!

I was on this weekend cruise, but felt ill-at-ease from the moment I boarded. I made a conscious decision to avoid alcoholic drinks, and was glad I didn't bring any nice jewellery (crazy, I know).
The weather deteriorated almost immediately. Getting on board a life boat was really difficult, because there were so many children and elderly. I was lifted to safety by a helicopter. As somebody with a fear of heights, it was actually quite a wonderful experience. Hearing that nobody died was just amazing. I'm eternally grateful to the rescue crews.

NO ONE DIED this one is actually like rare. I can’t believe everyone survived it’s like a miracle

SO amazing and wonderful that everyone survived! What a story to live to tell. For the captain and officers who jumped ship without a care for any of the others and just left them rather than help them - Shame on you and I hope to feel like cowards and failures. I would be so disappointed to hear this story and realize my husband or brother or father left all of these people to just figure it out on their own. I hope life has dealt you what you deserve.

This was a miracle. Angels were watching over all the passengers. God bless the brave and kind heroes like Lynne, Lorraine and Moss Hill

This is probably the only story that involves a bunch of people and not one person died. That's amazing

I've heard enough of these stories to know you're on your own if the ship is sinking. I sure hope those officers who thought only of themselves and fled on the lifeboats before helping passengers were tried in court. Shameful. With all this, it's hard to believe no souls were lost.

I've never heard of this incident before. I can't believe everyone was saved. This has made my day.

The officers on that ship were a mob of cowards. They just abandoned the passengers to save their own skins. Thank God there was some people who organised the people on board.😊😊

Shame on the captain and officers! Glad you all made it.

These passengers were abandoned by many of the crew (not all) and were left to save themselves. It was a disgrace. Fortunately, others stepped up as leaders and everyone was saved. The rescue effort was pretty amazing.👍

Shout out to all the men who stayed behind and didn’t get on a lifeboat. Talk about bravery

I was on the Jupiter cruise that sank on 21st October 1988. It was also part of the Epirikiti fleet. Unfortunately not everyone survived and the captain and crew were the first off, leaving us school children to fend for ourselves with no life jackets.

everyone is praising the lady and her crew and I agree, they did fantastic. However, the polish guys do not get any of the recognition they deserve. Be blessed my polish heroes, be blessed

Imagine being a proud Captain, long career as a naval officer, certain of his own success, often thinking how brilliantly he would handle a wrecking, how brave and impressive he would be, how he would get everyone out safely but then it happens and the terror takes over, mindless terror and he flees and just leaves everyone to drown!

Imagine being that person, a high ranking naval officer, knowing others beneath him, just the entertainment staff, were actually the brave ones, who went above and beyond, could do what he was incapable of doing.

I would not want to be that man. Not even for one minute. No longer anything to be proud of, likely prosecuted, all honours removed, quite rightly.

Courage is something that requires practise. It comes from a deep sense of humility and humanity, from understanding that you are not the most important person in the room, that you can lead a better life through a sense of shared humanity with others.
