According to the US Dept of Energy, refrigerators last approximately 12 years, not the ‘8 to 10 years old’ mentioned in this vid.

Ours is an Amana. It is over 30 years old.
Runs great. It is better built then ANY Fridge out there today.

My parents purchased our Whirlpool 21 cu. inch side-by-side fridge when we bought our house -- in 1995 -- and it's still working like a charm (almost). Sure, the ice maker is broken (dollar store plastic ice cube trays are fine) and food is cold, so we'll stretch out our refrigerator as long as we can. It's our only original household appliance left. They sure don't make them like they used to as they say...

8-10 years is too short for fridges. they usually last decades because they're so simple. I would correct you "if you check any of these...." if your fridge is malfunctioning AND it is over 10 years old should be it

1. it's warmer inside the fridge than outside
2. hot dogs are barking all day long
3. fridge has no door

These are signs you should buy a very old fridge that is quality instead of the modern disposable units.
