so in an exam would one show the working out for if m>8 and m<8 ?? or would it be mentioned in the question?

To find the M when less than 8, I did 25/8 got the factor and then did 8/the factor and got the same answer as you. Does that always work?

Hi sir, aren't the acceleration directions the wrong way round? Shouldn't it be going down for the m kg particle and up for the 8 kg particle, when m>8

Sorry sir but why cant the masses be the same because they could be the same but if one is closer to the ground then that one would cause and acceleration. Thank you.
