I was one of the lucky ones for whom a turn of the spanner fixed it. One minute I was searching for a plumber. Ten minutes later after watching your video, problem solved. Thanks so much!

I was literally going to call a plumber to fix this as I wasn't confident turning the water off at the street! Thank you so much fixed my leak!! 💪💪

Superb. Thank you. A quick tighten left a tiny drip, but watching your video gave me the confidence to have a go at replacing the PTFE. As you said a bit of challenge getting it to catch the thread again, but once it did - bingo! I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days to see if it needs tightening some more.
Once again - thank you!

Don't forget to wrap the tape the right way i.e. clockwise viewed from above otherwise it will try to unwrap itself as you tighten the gland nut up.

Also, you can push a little bit of boss/ Hawk white paste in with the ptfe tape.
The old brass stopcocks were actually made very well, the new ones however are poorly made. The centre screw is only brass plated, and rusts.
I now fit BS standard lever valves.
Turn your valves on and off twice a year too keep them free from seizing up.

I had a water meter fitted yesterday! The young plumber came from Barnsley... home of 'Kes' and 'Dickie Bird!' He noticed the drip from the packing gland and fixed it in an instant with a smidgeon of 'jointing compound'... I tipped him a tenner... He did a grrreat job! 👍👍👍

It is amazing what PTF tape can do. When I bought my property the first thing I checked was where the mains water was being fed from, and located the shut off valve outside and then the stop cock under the sink, and checked them both.

Thanks mate. Saved me calling the plumber. Also I would advise holding the piper work firmly whilst you turn the gland nut as extra support.

Brilliant video, many thanks. My mains stopcock will leak if I look at it the wrong way, but now I know how to fix it without calling in a plumber.
