1080p is like the standard to plah games. 720 is less sharper and more blurry, but 1080p is more sharper and overall better. I have a 1080p 10+ years old tv for my xbox one, its great

1080 is sharper and textures are more vivid. You can easily tell this if you are actually test it on your own monitor.

ppl may think the difference is not much. actually it depends on monitor size and its capped resolution. if u try playing at 720p in a 1080p 21inch monitor(which I am using) u wont like it. but yes, the performance will increase

A lower screen resolution greatly increases performance! The frame rate at a display resolution of 1280x720 is much higher than at a resolution of 1920x1080.
And if your computer is capable of running at 3840x2160 (4K) resolution in modern games, then it is better to use a monitor with a resolution of 2560x1440, because then you will get significantly faster performance!

The only times you'll notice major differences in picture quality with increased resolution is on larger screens and monitors, and streaming content. The PPI can only be so high before we can't physically see the difference, and the smaller the screen, the higher the PPI. So for devices like the steam deck or rog ally or legion go, that higher resolution may not always be worth the performance cost and battery drain.

My question is, does the resolution of streamed content make a difference, even on smaller devices? Xcloud streams at 720 on android devices and 1080 on windows, and with some workarounds I've managed to get it running at 1080 on android, and there's a noticeable difference in quality. But not like you see in these comparisons. Moreso less blur. I'm guessing higher resolution streams have more quality to lose during compression and end up looking less compressed once they reach their final screen?

Well, I have great FPS on 720p ultra, and my new monitor will take up to 1-2 years before I find a good one, and 720p native monitors look better than a 720p picture on a 1080p display, so guess I'll be fine on 720p ultra

I think I like 720p better. 720p seems just right, like a primitive lifeform struggling to understand their environment, while not having jaggies. 1080p is slightly more crisp, does not have jaggies, but seems like too much data on a brain. 1080p seems like landing into a post-modern capitalist realism reality, where there is too much information for the cortex to process. Whereas the N64 graphics were more primitive, more mysterious, less of a load, but had jaggies... The 720p offers a nice blend between past and future graphics, offering a similar level of laid back simplicity, but without the jaggies of the 480 realms, and without the overload of pixels from a 1080p future. Since most gamers are accustomed to 1080p already, going back to 720p takes some getting used to, similar to how a drug junkie feels awkward when trying to return to normalcy, even if the drugs don't get them high anymore, they still feel worse when going off the drugs, and this is what its like trying to go from 1080p to 720p, even if 720p is healthier, better for the environment and global warming, better for lag reduction, and provides a better gaming experience. This is my opinion, as it applies to standard TVs and monitors, and it does not apply to VR, which actually does require 2k or 4k.

As long as you can play the game doesn’t matter how it looks, of course 1080 is better and my 4K experience is the best, but when I was a kid I use to play on a square tube that way 40cm wide, and I still had fun.

Before I got an Elgato HD60 S+, I used to play my games at 720p because my Elgato Game Capture HD can only do 720p60 and not 1080p60, but now I play at 1080p

Question about older games(especially Fall out -New vegas that was released in 720p of HD and if there will be a big difference if i play it in 1080p instead? I ask this due to game was released in HD and is there any difference when it comes to old games in this resolution compared to new games that has a higher resolution at release when played in 720p or HD???? i have a hard time asking what i mean, but hope u understand what im after?

i launced Fallout N.V in original 720p if i use 1080p will it be a big difference like the ones on this video??
