Breathing is the one of best methods for activating the core because it helps to engage the diaphragm (main muscle of respiration), transverse abdominis and pelvic floor, which are just some of the muscles we need to recruit for core stability.
When we breathe diaphragmatically we engage with the deep core muscles that are connected fascially. Fascia plays a huge role in intra-abdominal pressure and spinal support. Co ordinating breath with movement helps us engage with our parasympathetic nervous system, reducing tension and allowing for more efficient, relaxed movement, enhancing stability and strength, whilst preventing injury.
