Dr. Grande, Thank you so much for these shorts. This one definitely needs a deeper dive into.

I did a personality test, supposedly a proper one, and it told me that my highest trait is empathy, but my second-highest trait is Machiavellianism, which is an odd mix, but does ring true. I think it means, I care a lot, but I'm not averse to manipulating people to get my way.

This is my husband! No small talk, lots of seeing life as a chess game. But loads of empathy, only slightly egotistical 😉

I'm going to have to look into this more because this sounds like my dad.. to be honest I think he might have antisocial disorder because he was abusive in every way one can be abusive and he enjoyed every moment of it it was the only time I saw him smile

And CPS was cold on my parents many many many times and unfortunately that never got me out of there I was too well trained in brainwashed to tell them what was going on at home and I lived in a state where they really didn't care about kids anyway but clearly neighbors and teachers did care

And though he would never say it it's very clear he's self-absorbed very selfish very self-centered but this sounds like him as he is very very strategic he's very careful about how he says what he says so if you call him out he will just say you misunderstand him and he meant this not that and that is how careful he was with his words there is never been a time he said anything where he couldn't manipulate it and my mom has more Outburst with her emotions and it's very clear he takes advantage of that I think he enjoys flustering her cuz he knows it's easy to flush to her so pretty much their match made it hell and she's his toy I think he gets enjoyment out of fucking with her head until she's angry and she's not in either but she'll stick by his side no matter what he's done and he'll keep using her as his entertainment because she's very easy to fluster

I'm definitely going to bring this one up with a friend of mine that's a professional and talk with them as she probably know better on educating me while I'm trying to educate myself LOL as psychology is honestly a fascinating and it's helped me through so much it's helped me be great at communication and learning about this is just another way I can communicate about my dad and what he was like ...give me the words I need to express

So going to look into it more and educate myself a little further and talk with my friend as this sounded so much like him like it was extremely Eerie that's how much it sounded like it he's always appeared calm in front of people never went all crazy with emotions at least not in public where people could see him I've seen huge Tantrums behind closed doors but in public extremely calm no one would believe what kind of person he was behind closed doors he was extremely calm some people even hung on to every word he said simply cuz he seems so quiet and humble and then they had no idea the monster he was behind closed doors but the only public he was just like this and behind closed doors at least before the cops were threatening on him he was very different on and close doors but after the cops were threatened and now he's pretty much been just like this from that point on

Well I better stop with my ADHD rambling LOL should be going to sleep but instead I'm flipping through shorts on YouTube and you're not likely to read the comment but just in case thanks for sharing what you share man this short was really helpful I extremely helpful as now I have something to study up on and hopefully give me better communication to explain stupid childhood trauma LOL

So-in this context, is machiavelianism really negative? I guess you still have the cynicism.
But I think cynicism in some degree is hard to avoid in life, it’s in some ways it’s just a realistic pragmatism that comes with experience. Thoughts to ponder while drinking coffee and watching Dr. Grande. Thanks for the lesson Dr. Grande. Happy Christmas week everyone!

I once worked with a guy who would ask leading questions that tended to make the person they were talking with feel paranoid. In every other way, they were decent and caring but if someone stated what they thought was the truth, it would irk them, so they had to pick at it. For example, if someone told them "I really like working here, everyone treats each other so respectfully and professionally", they would say something along the lines of "You think so, huh?". I once asked them why they did that and they said, that the world is not nice and naivete is a blister bubble that hurts less when popped by a professional. I'm not sure if this is machiavalianism or not, but I can say that a lot of the folks that worked for them went on to do great things, not falling for any of the pitfalls that others in their departments tend to.

Why is Machiavellianism considered a mental illness? This is how governments, businesses and many people operate. I think its also Normal and certainly the majority of people.

I’ve learned so much from your videos, do you think you could do anything on cult psychology, cult leaders, people who join cults, maybe the effects on 2nd, 3rd, even 4th generation cult members.

For me I never knew I had the dark trait of Machiavellianism until I was in adulthood and put in a position of stress in my first career (which in the beginning I thought to be my dream job). Over 5 years that job collectively challenged many employees morals and ethics, and I feel like the Machiavellian traits emerged as some kind of weird coping mechanism, not just in myself but in a lot of my coworkers without the other 2 dark triad traits after being under these conditions for such a long period of time with actual psychopaths and narcissists

Maybe that's the best strategy they have to deal with narcissism.

I find it especially interesting because in international relations there is this theory, one of the two most important ones - realism that’s basically based on works of Machiavelli, Hobbes etc. and I often think about it and if it’s possible that my studies and interests influenced me in such a way that I classify as a high-Machs personality now…
