We Need To Talk About The Cutter Variants..

They market the Cutter Rambler as having extended fuel tanks and the Cutter Scout as being more covert, but none of that is true.

For those commenting that i'm "Short sighted" and that these features will be "important differences in the fututre" It's not that I don't understand their "future potential" it's that I functionally dissagree with releasing ships without their gameplay in the game, and this is something CIG has been saying themselves they don't want to do either.
So when they just copy paste the original Cutter which i'm already a fan of, and fill it with non functional objects and aren't even bothered to change the values of the fuel tank, the main selling point of the ship that they're marketing it as on launch it stands out and I feel warranted in pointing out how specifically rediculous it is.
If they really wanted to sell it as is, they should have sold it as a Jpeg concept. And even that I'm not a fan of but it's better than this.
I don't believe in buying something that doesn't do what it's supposed to do, plain and simple.

When they announced the rambler my first thought was, “another LTI token”

They did something similarly sickening with the Dragonfly, it was shown to have a shield generator in its advertising brochure and had one in game for years and now with the release of the X1 they straight up removed it. CIG is blatantly nerfing the ships we already own in order to sell the new shiny ones. Horrible business practice by them and, no, "iT's aN aLpHa!!!" is not an excuse.

Here's an idea: Delete all the amenities from the base Cutter, and all those interior walls, so you can store more stuff (and more easily fit vehicles). It'd be like a box van then. Then add a second bed to the Rambler, bunk style.

cutter pilot here. I love the base version so much, it was my starter and I still use it all the time. mainly for just transporting myself and gear between stations/planets. While I'm definitely not impressed with the two variants, I can excuse the not-yet-implemented mechanics, and I don't mind seemingly "useless" features or furniture. What I think the entire cutter series suffers from is inefficient and awkward interior design. I think you are totally spot on that many of the rambler's features can be put in the base cutter without sacrificing the cargo space. There absolutely is space for a suit locker next to the bed, the item storage locker could be moved, say, above the bed, and the bathroom moved into a corner and rotated 90 degrees to offer more space for a food processor and maybe a fold-out jumpseat or table sort of thing. The Rambler would then need a total overhaul inside to make it much more attractive to justify sacrificing half the cargo space. Really add some livability features like a proper two-person table, bunk beds... just something that adds value to the rambler and justifies the increased hab size. I like your idea for the scout actually. Sorry for the ramble (lol) just a few thoughts.

Holy moley, thank you. I almost feel gaslit by how positive the community is over every new Cutter while im over here wondering what the heck they are talking about.

The cutter would make a perfect small dropship. Most people operate in small squads anyway. Put some seats in the cargo area with a lock off door to the cabin, paint it yellow and it works as a low operating cost taxi when not dropping troops. I don't want to sit on the cutter bed when I'm catching a ride from where I wrecked out my ship back to a spaceport.

The CIG should just make Cutter modular and let us choose what we want on it.

did some research and here's a quick breakdown of what I found.

base small quantum tank has a volume of 583 (aurora es), extended small tank range from 645 to 700 (pisces at 645 with the 100i at 700) and the cutter tanks are 980 per tank for a total of 1960 on the base and scout. the rambler has aux tanks listed but not implemented yet. so up to a standard 583 or even a extended (possibly) 980 third tank.

the funniest thing is that the big brother of the cutter (the cutlass) has AMAZING variants that will or already provide gameplay differences. This kinda completely goes against what makes drake ships drake.

I so agree with you on that. I loved to been able to fly around the verse and never refuel. And I so much wanted the expedition version to be bigger, like more cargo or extra vehicles load, or I don't know, the front door and the roof rack. But in fact, the haven't added anything useful. That's a shame

I play for the screenshots and rp. I appreciate aesthetics but I’ve noticed the Cutters are just “less & less” useful.
I’m glad someone said it.

It's both an LTI Token and a Collectors Item. I thought the same with all the variants of the Titan. But at least the Titans offer some useful gameplay options. The Cutter has very few options open to it, whatever the variant!

The Rambler has 3 hydrogen and 3 Quantum fuel tanks while the other variants have 2 each. This will likely reflect later when adjustments are made.

I do agree that right now a lot of the ship serves no purpose just like the Scout. It’s a ship akin to taking a roadtrip within your city… We probably won’t see its actual potential for a few years (maybe even 10+) until we get additional solar systems.

Its pretty obvious why they added the variants *now* to the game, because, they wanted to close out the development on those ships, then move on to the next ones instead of having to circle back to a ship and assign developers to work on a ship that may be months or years old and the person that made it originally, may not be in the company or may be on another assignment and cant be pulled away. It is not a weird decision to make at all.

I think it's silly that they added one variant with a different exterior, and yet another variant with a different interior. Why not have one ship with both and call it a true variant?

Folkeregor

The could have easily fit what is in the interior space of the rambler into the base variant if they had not wasted such an insane amount of valuable space on this ship. I agree this could have been one ship, instead we get 3 ships, none of which can fight well, or carry much cargo, and the rambler can barely carry a vehicle.

I have all three Cutters and yes, everything you say is very fair criticism. The Scout, when it was announced at CitCon it was implied that scanning play was imminent, 3.22 level imm8inent. Now its off the map again. The Rambler was supposed to have the long range and someone fouled up. Ten gets you one thjat it was a marketing driven release and was in act due ay IAE. You can get the PTV, STV, Mules and X1 (if yiou see the last names as having a role) in ther back of the Rambler with some care. The Ramble probably should have been set with facilities for two on board, there is enough gun stoage and seating, but then only one suit locker. Good ideas poorly im, plemented, but that's most of SC, the game that treats violent player interaction as a suibstitute for content. 🙂

They could've made more room by getting rid of the bulkhead to the pilot's seat. Just like an RV, it can open to the hab area. There's a lot of wasted space behind the pilot.

Alternatively they could've installed some shag green carpet to the Rambler and it could then be the hippie space van that you live in down by the MicroTech river.

thank you. i think all the cutter´s fuel tanks should be significantly buffed back to be almost ridiculous. thing flies like a brick, but the range makes it lovely
