I lived in Englewood for 6 months after Hurricane Ian and used to go to Lock & Key and the Sandbar. God Bless them.

I used to live in South Gulf Cove(Port Charlotte) which is next door to Englewood when hurricane Ian hit 2 years ago. It was absolutely terrible, almost a cat 5. But luckily, we didn't get the flooding the residents of Englewood did with Helene. I moved back to Texas shortly after, and I can say that I don't miss living in Florida at all. Good luck to those folks...they are going to need it.

I've been in Florida 55 years i treat every storm like it's coming right through my front window no matter what direction it's going times have changed these storms are just too massive we're taking damage like this when the system is 100 miles west of us anything closer is a massive loss of life and property

Everyone in that neighborhood was notified by Sarasota County 2-3 weeks ago that if they sustained 50%+ damage to their structure they have to bring their homes up to flood level code. Though this was the worst one due to it being from storm surge, with the continued development of Wellen Park and surrounding areas the flooding will only get worse and happen more often. All around devastating for everyone who lives there.

"I didn't think it'd be this bad, " Victim said. Perhaps NOAA, NWS, NHC, TWC, etc. should consider doing flyover pamphlet drops in zones with highest surge potential. Clearly, our American population does NOT watch TV, subscribe to satellite Sirius XM radio, or have internet access with which to check Facebook and X for current weather updates, warnings, posts. Few to none even subscribe to or read real newspapers anymore. How were they supposed to know? Whose responsibility is it to let them know? 🤔🌀🤷🏼‍♀️

Imma say this once and as nicely as I can my mother and my family have lost our house 6 times to flooding (like you heard) and we DOa NOT have any money to move bc Ian and every storm has made us loose the house we have no family here bc we're not from Florida and we can't rely on people we know bc they are in the same situation it's sad to see how many of y'all really don't care about anyone but yourself when people like us are going through this... Try cleaning your entire house out knocking out your walls buying new food and furniture every single hurricane or even rain storm... We moved here before we knew it flooded and before we moved there it barely ever did maybe it's my family's luck or yeah maybe it isn't a good place to live but right now unless any of y'all are willing to give us a house don't say shit about how we are trying to leave it... We can't just leave bc my parents aren't renters they bought it and we can't rent it out if it's not fixed but how are we gonna fix it with no money... I get y'all pov but it's heartbreaking that y'all don't have human decency enough to just not comment and say "BOO HOO" or " you knew it was gonna flood move" walk a mile in our shoes try walking in waist high water when its in your house try seeing absolutely everything that ment something to you gone... We can never save everything that's important but until you know how it is to have your house flooded more than 1 time in a month don't try to comment and tell us to JUST MOVE when for us it's not possible.

These folks are living in the past to the detriment of the future.

They were on the north side of Ian landfall and therefore did not experience the wrath of Ian.
