as someone who owns an axolotl, can confirm most of these things to be true. while they like to be left alone, they are very curious. even though they have bad eye sight, they will still look at you if you get close to their tank, and are aggressive when getting food. i don’t know about the lost limbs one though, and don’t plan to find out lol

Fun fact, this is actually their baby stage! Axolotls stay babies forever and never become their adult form unless absolutely necessary so if you know someone who has a weird looking axolotl, make sure it isn’t an adult and that they are treating it correctly!
