I had an axolotl for 6 years, he was one of my favorite pets as far as lizards/fish go. He seemed to be more aware of me and would swim over to see me when i walked in the room and would swim up to the surface to eat pellets right out of my hand. Theyre awesome creatures, but theyre often sold for the wrong reasons.

They are also highly abused within the aquarium industry because of this convenient feature. There's literally a dead baby axolotl in the scene where the person opens the clam.
Edit: called it a mussel, after re-watching i realized its some sorta clam lol, which is just as bad if not worse cuz of the clams more shallow shell and hinge(part that joins the shell). Apologies for the error. Unfortunately though the axolotl is still dead.

Another important piece of information is that axolotls get BURNT badly if one tries to touch them outside water. You pet them only underwater.❤

They are really cute! But it’s a shame people abuse them just because they can regrow parts of their bodies. Pain still exists.

When i was 15, I'm 58 now, I found one of these salamanders under a rock in a puddle of water in my sister-in-laws backyard in Vallejo, CA. Her family freaked out when I picked it up and started to explain what it was. These creatures are absolutely beautiful and unique.

Axolotls are majestic animals.

I got two of them and they are amazing animals. Highly intelligent creatures.

I think they are able to recognize the person that feeds them. And could creat bonds. I don't usually touch them but they come to my hand and lay on it.

Another really cool thing about Axolotl’s is that if their water conditions aren’t often met as they grow from a tadpole stage, they turn into Salamanders; needing to swim up to the surface to breath oxygen there since they lost their gills in the process. I just think it’s amazing how much this animal can adapt in its life time, yet it’s so easy for them to die from neglect.

Mexican here, I'm so proud of these little guys getting the spotlights they've always deserved, unfortunately not so many people or aquariums know correctly to take care of them, where I'm from theres a MUMAX (Museo Mexicano del Axolote) runned by a family interested on Axolotl not only exhibition, but also preservation snd information, axolotls are so a unique creature, I feel like I should apologize with the whole world that this amazing living being ended up being in one of the worst modern day cultures

I had one who got a small cut on his bottom lip and he grew a tiny little extra lip and it stayed that way till he died at 10years old. He had full on personality and so did his mate that also lived to 10.
