It's 5!!! Always deal with brackets first, so 4(2+3) = 4(5). What do you see? BRACKETS! how do you get rid of them? MULTIPLY IT BY 4! so that means you get 100÷20 which equals 5!

4(2+3) is using the distribution property. The answer should be 5 not 25.

100÷4(2+3)≡100÷[4×(2+3)]
Implicit notation includes BOTH an implied multiplication AND the implied parenthetical grouping.
So
100÷[4×(2+3)]=
100÷[4×5]=
100÷20=5
100kwh÷[4h(5kw)]=
100kwh÷20kwh= 5 operations of the process.
If implied multiplication has the same priority as division, then the implied parentheses MUST have the same priority as the explicit version.
Not 125 kw². The kw² is a dead giveaway for bad math practices.

I will say that my math teacher’s growing up would make us do the 4(5) before the division because they considered it as parentheses. Granted I was born in 1982. I’ve also noted that I can get a different answer depending on how I type the problem into the calculator. If I use 100/4(2+3)= it gives 125. However, I’ve entered it using the divide symbol, which I can’t type here, it comes out as 100 divided by 4(2+3)= 5. The 125 answer treats it as a fraction 100 as the numerator and 4(2+3) as the denominator. Mostly I think people just like to argue and I’m not a math expert, but thought that was an interesting difference.

Here is the problem:

100 ÷ 4(2+3) = ?

Let's set the answer to 5 and 125 to see which is the correct answer. I will substitute x = 3 in both cases.

100 ÷ 4(2 + x) = 5 Case 1
100 ÷ (8 + 4x) = 5 Distributive Property
100 = 5(8 + 4x) Multiply both sides by (8 + 4x)/(8+ 4x)
100 = 40 + 20x Distributive Property
60 = 20x Subtraction Property
3 = x Division

100 ÷ 4(2 + x) = 125 Case 2
100 ÷ (8 + 4x) = 125
100 = 125(8 + 4x)
100 = 1000 + 500x
-900 = 500x
-1.8 = x
Case 2 is not a true statement, while Case 1 is.

The Answer is 5.

The best way I’ve heard this “equation” described is that it’s intentionally written in a way as to confuse people because it’s all up to interpretation. The problem could be written a couple different ways that would differentiate the way you would interpret the question. Videos with content like this are usually just looking for engagement and that’s what we have all fallen for. 😂

So the parenthesis dont come down with the 5 making it 45

Now if they want to get technical 4(2+3)= 20 if they do (4×2+4×3) that equal 20

Now divide that by 100 n see what u get

lmfao the answer is 5 .
even following pemdas u should get 5 .
its a trick question the way the equation was written out . its a bait social media question . u guys are literally just solving the equation the way its written out (which is written out purposefully confusing). u guys are solving the equation but NOT following pemdas truly bc of the way the equation is written .
it really SHOULD be 100/(4(2+3)) . then yall would be solving it correctly .
same equation, different answer, mathematically correct . the damn answer is 5 .

So the parentheses around the 5 isn't done first? 100÷4*2+3? I thought parentheses mean something. Its not just * its () specifically

I wasnt taught that M&D and A&S are grouped together. I'm 39. In school we we're taught that there was an order. P 1st E 2nd M 3rd D 4th A 5th S 6th as steps. So 100÷4(5) 100÷20=5. Im not saying things havent been updated and obviously i believe my calculator, but I can hear my 7th grade math teacher screaming PEMDAS order of operations!

100/4(2+3)
You have to eliminate the () so first solve what’s inside of the ()
4(2+3)
4(5)
20
100/20=5

The () represents multiplication so there’s no need to put the X sign, you’re gonna change the equation. The key is to eliminate the ().

If the problem was just 4(2+3) you apply the distribution of multiplication rule.
4*2=8
4*3=12
8+12=20
The key is to eliminate the (),
You can NOT do anything until you Eliminate The ()

That’s why the answer is 5

Work the problem on a scientific calculator and you will see you’re teaching this wrong and you can’t change the rule.

Yes, the answer is 5. Cretins will come up with a different answer.

I disagree with this, 100/4(5) is what the question turns into. You’re solving it as 100/4x5. Two different questions . Parentheses are first. You simplified the parentheses and then ignored pemdas.
