Here’s a real tip. Do what he said and dab it in there and then use a heat gun to dry it and keep dabbing it until you’re almost level with surrounding paint then do the same thing with clear until your above surrounding paint. You’ll have to keep applying it a bunch of times as when the paint dries it shrinks as the solvents evaporate. Then take either a paint denibbing tool or wet sand the spot until it level, then compound and polish and boom, you got an actual professional touch up job. Yes it’s very time consuming to do it right. That’s why i always suggest customers get front bumpers repainted if there’s a lot of rock chips or it’ll end up costing more just to touch them all up.

I use a fine line fluid writer pen .Just fill it with paint. I fixed over 25 chips on my 2020 VW GTI. It put the perfect amount of paint in the chip.

Then finish with a wet sand and polish

I’m going to try this soon. I’ve also seen where you dab, then use a “scrapper” to smooth out, let dry then buff off extra or polish off.

I have two questions for you.

1) would an extremely fine paintbrush (anywhere from 00 to work well to build up the paint?

2) Regarding optimal longevity and perfection of touching up, is there a best temp and humidity to work within, associated with curing time? Or is curing time in this matter less relevant? I say this because my grandfather was a chemical engineer, and has patents on the the entire process of print-o-seal method, with printing rubber onto engine gaskets. He even created the machine to fo this, which was to optimize temp & curing time. He worked for Fel-Pro.

In the front edge of my hood I have a decent chip that, I guess, went all the way to the metal... you can see a bit of rust in the bottom of the chip. Do I just clean it and then do the touch up? Should I do any treatments on the rust?

Touch up paint will always look like touch up. Always want to use the least amount possible. Dont go dabbing a giant drop on it. Wipe excess off before dabbing.
