Scars: how our wounds make us who we are

Scars are not just skin-deep: emotional and psychological histories lie beneath the healed wounds. In this documentary, we meet five different people whose scars forever changed how they see the world, and how the world sees them. Their scars are the result of war, self-harm, birth defects, cancer and domestic violence, and the subject of a collection of stories both extraordinary and everyday. These scars bear witness to our lived experience of love, loss, strength and overcoming the odds

They're some of the most emotionally intelligent people I've seen.

I got two big scars on my armpits and I always cover it because I dont feel confortable with peeople looking at it and I dont wanna tell them why I have the scars. Watching this makes me realise that I don't need to be ashamed of my scars. Sorry for my english

I had a kidney transplant few years ago and now my stomach looks like a car crash. I have scars on my neck, chest and arms from the lines that were inserted in them. I honestly love my scars. They remind me of what I went through and to be grateful for what I have now.❤️

How wonderful to see the humanity in these people who suffered so much and found ways of staying on the positive side of life. I am truly moved by their stories. Thank you all for being here.

Scars are fascinating each one has a story

It's amazing how different all of their relationships are to their scars. "This isn't me anymore", the tattoo over it to transform it into a symbol of what came after, the shaving the head to always show it and be courageous. The interpretations are as different the stories and the scars themselves.

I needed sobering, I chase achievement, I feel bad when I lack, excited when I get there, I need to be grateful.

Great video!
You should do one for invisible disabilities. I have epilepsy and sometimes I'm not acting normal, I can be erratic, moody and it's all because of the epilepsy. And the meds they give us don't help with behavior and mood. Some people have been confused with drug addicts when they just have epilepsy. Studying is hard because our memory is screwed up from the seizures and the meds. It's the most common neurological condition and most people don't know much about it. They just think you're going to fall to the ground and start seizing. But there's so much more about epilepsy.

Scars can also have no meaning. Such as ones caused by the edge of your bathtub because you slipped and fell
