Sometimes, an employer may ask you illegal, discriminatory or inappropriate questions in a job interview. If they do, you need to know how to respond! Whilst there is a temptation to get up and walk out of the interview, it might be more prudent to answer the question professionally and then decline an offer of a job interview if one is forthcoming.

I was once asked if I have kids. I said, I do have 4 kids and I need to work hard and do my very best to shine in this position and support my family. I got the job offer!

I remember an interviewer asking me "Where else have you applied?" Why on earth would she care?

I had one guttersnipe hiring manager ask me where I came from based on my race and I just looked at him in shock, told him where I was from followed by why do you ask, is it relevant to this position? He was a real prick! 😡

Q5 was NOT asked in my interview yesterday BUT I was willing to disclose that I was in special education due to low vision (being legally blind). I can do anything except drive. They loved my answers to the 5 questions that were asked. Results will be revealed Wednesday next week. I really want this job because it’s working with students I can empathize with

I had the worst interview experience this morning. At the interview they asked me my age, and also never told me also that it would be 2 men interviewing me not just one person, one man was in front of a computer to the side of me and the other man sitting right across from me. Both asking me questions asking each other questions, very unprofessional interview in my opinion it was for a customer service position nothing crazy and I felt like I was being interrogated and I felt so uncomfortable I wanted to walk out so badly, but didn't know how to. 😪 I did not want to be rude, but I am glad I went because it was a great reminder to listen to my conscience! Also asked me about who I live with & where exactly I live, it was just horrible so weird. I have done plenty of interviews and this one was just so personal instead of professional.

Here's one:

I was recently asked in an interview "What do you do outside work?", so I answered "I like to go see live shows. I have tickets to see Genesis and Queen in the next twelve months, and my wife and I are going to a show in December to see an act that she likes".

Looking at it now, maybe my interests reflect my age. So how can I get answer that question without reflecting my age?

Thank you for the informative content. I don't know if it's funny, but I have had employers ask about tattoos on my hands/forearms, and I have never know how to answer the question: "What does -insert tattoo- mean?" or "What's with the hand?"

I am single and do not plan to have children. I am a teetotal, non-smoker. Am I not allowed to use this to my advantage ?

I have a question regarding job interview QNo4, what if the interviewer insist to ask you by saying "well, I am just curious and interested in that personally"?
