The world's richest man, Elon Musk, laid-off nearly 4,000 Twitter employees through email. At Twitter's New York office, the building was closed for the day and all employee badges were voided, including workers who are still employed by the company. Many of the laid-off workers posted images of their locked company laptops. However, Twitter is not alone. Mass layoffs are happening across the tech world including at Amazon, Google and Facebook.

As a business owner and an accountant...I cant imagine the payroll for 4, 000 tech workers. Insane!

I'm baffled that Twitter hired that many employees to begin with.

Imagine letting everyone go in person. Do you know how long that would take?

What's crazy is Twitter having 7, 500 employees in the first place.

With all those employees you’ll think twitter would be ahead of all those other big social media companies

The guy next to the caption “it was an honor” looks like he was actually really happy to be employed at twitter, I hope he finds a better job and lives a great life

The fact that you guys somehow managed to use a picture of DSP as one of the eight on screen is beyond hilarious.

Its funny how he's sacked 50-70% of the workers and the platform still operates perfectly.

"I did nothing wrong I did everything correctly" A direct quote from Phil who was let go by elon today.

I like how they just conveniently failed to mention how much they were compensated for being let go.

He can't let everyone go in person, if you're fired, you're fired. That simple. Never get that comfortable at a job, always have a back up plan unless you know for sure it's in the long run. There's no way in hell Twitter even needed that many employees to begin with.

Phil Burnell was laid off AGAIN? We're gonna be hearing about this for the next 10 years.

Well, if you're going to notify 3, 700 people they've been laid off, and do it in a timely fashion, how the hell else should you do it other than e-mail? In person? Phone call? Snail mail? Also, why would a company like Twitter ever need 7, 500 employees?

As a giant mess of a social media called Twitter, i get why Elon is working so hard with turning around twitter for good.

You gotta wonder, what exactly did these 4, 000 people do? It's hard to imagine you even need 4, 000 people to run Twitter.

To be fair he did say when he bought Twitter there were going to be cuts. It's the people who thought "Hmm I'm safe here"

I like the fact that they pointed out that it isn't just happening at Twitter. I feel bad for anyone losing their job, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum, but anyone with even a shred of common sense would have known this was going to happen. At the end of the day, it was their own woke ideology which led to this. I saw a video of what it was like to "work" there. Even without Elon buying the company, anyone with common sense should have known that it couldn't last forever. As far as being laid off by email, you aren't going to call 3700 people to your office 1 by 1 to give them the news. Also, they left out the fact that Elon gave them all 3 months severance. That is 50% more than legally required.
