Does putting big mud tires on your 4x4 negatively effect your fuel economy? and is diesel or petrol better for big tires? In this video i show my Pajero with 32" Muddies and explain what causes fuel economy issues when you put big tires on your 4wd!

Nice video! Thanks for putting in the effort. Nice to see some love for the gen 2 Pajero, great bang for your buck 4x4

In my daily 2.8td NL I haven't noticed too much difference going from 31x10.5(A/T) to 33x10.5(A/T) in overall fuel economy. However, It is a slightly harder to take off initially and speedo is out by 6ks at 100. I think diff ratio plays a part also (4.90)

Going from 29s(a/t) to the wider 32s(m/t) in a v6 Rodeo I really noticed a difference, massive loss in power/economy. Same is said when I put my 33x12.5 muddies on the Pajero, but not as bad at all probably due to the explained lower peak torque of the diesel.

From my limited experience, I think the mud terrain must have a lot more mass also creating more rolling resistance, so add another 0.5 - 1L/100ks for tyre type/width.

Everyone always talks about bigger tyres making the Speedo wrong but I've never thought about it making the odometer wrong as well, thanks Patrick.

Slapped a 33 MT's on my Petrol NL and re-geared to 4.90's, no loss of power since the V6 matches the 4.90's really well, downside is the fuel consumption. I used to get 700 K's on stock tyres, now I only get 550 the most. But it's worth it for me.

In my Pajero 2002 stock sizes is 265/70r16 which are around 30.6" we could say 31", I just installed 265/75r16 or 32" and I could say it's been hard on the fuel economy, and my speedometer is on the dot, it wasn't accurate before, and now it is, which is good, but I don't think I could go any bigger than that; 3.5L V6 Petrol is very thirsty.

I put larger tyres on my car (about 6% larger and 30% wider) and the fuel consumption is lower with the large tyres. Driving 100km is the same with both stock and large tyres, but speed seems to be out by about 2 or 3%..
That is just in my experience.

Doesn't a pajero have 30 or 31 inch tyres factory?

4x4 tires are dangerous for on road use. The tread patterns make zero sense they dont do shit on wet roads
