Such a good man, to burn other men to death. Really good stuff, Dougy.

I think Calvinists would do better to test the conclusions of their doctrines. For example, in Romans 9:21 the Calvinists claims this passage illustrates their doctrine of predestination. Simply testing this claim by reading Jeremiah 18 from which Paul is quoting would be enough to illustrate that this passage/verse is not supporting the predestination in Calvinism.

I have a very different impression of Calvin. I imagine my impression is closer to that of Servetus.

“If you become a threat to the Devil, he will try to take you out.”

I thought that the Devil had been bound according to post millennials. You can’t have it both ways.

Agreed. Calvin was a good man and faithful had people killed for their religious convictions. Don't get me wrong, I still love John Calvin. In his mind, he was probably doing the will of God. But also, don't gloss over history.

This is not the reason Calvin was controversial within the church. Many good and faithful men are not known for their deterministic doctrines that have been the center of controversy among theologians. Plus, he was known for his harsh treatment of dissenters, which is something we may certainly forgive but we mustn’t overlook it as if he was without error—or pretend that his strict and abusive beliefs didn’t contribute to his being controversial.

Mostly because of his threat to Michael Servetus, "for if he came, as far as my authority goes, I would not let him leave alive, " which, of course, was carried out, in a barbaric way. Lovely.

But… If you are a threat to God, he will also take you out.

Joseph Smith was controversial. Who do you think was trying to take him out? God or the Devil?

Blocking the pulpit & murdering might have more to do with it

Easy: it's not Biblical and it makes God the author of evil.

“If we live in a fallen world...the flesh, devil, and world coming after you...Paul was a faithful servant of God...Calvin is an object of controversy because...” Absolutely NONE of this truly makes sense in the Calvinist schema because in it of this is DIRECTLY AND FULLY controlled and made to happen by God. So his answer should be: Why is Calvin controversial? Because God literally and filly makes it that way in every sense. Period. Nothing else.
