When a person dies. The body returns to EARTH where it came from. The SOUL/SPIRIT goes to Purgatory and/to heaven OR HELL for all eternity.

The Body CANNOT live without the Spirit. The Spirit can live without the body.

James 2:26

26 *For as the body without the spirit is dead, * so faith without works is dead also.

Ecclesiastes 12:7
7 *and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.*

Matthew 16:26
26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? *Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?*

Genesis 35:18
18 *And as her soul was departing (for she was dying), * she called his name Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin.

Matthew 17

The Transfiguration
17 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.
3 *Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.*

Moses died at least over a thousand years before Jesus was born. Elijah was TAKEN up to heaven by God Himself.

How was it that they BOTH appeared with Jesus on the mountain according to Matthew 17?. Were they Ghosts?.

Luke 23:40-43
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God, ” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?
41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 Jesus answered him, *“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”*

Jesus and the Thief both died on the same What does Jesus mean when He said :" Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise ".

The good thief's body went to earth while his Soul/Spirit went to paradise that Jesus promised him.

John 8:56-57
56 *Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.”*
57 So the Jews said to him, *“You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?”*

Where did Jesus saw Abraham when Abraham died at least 2000 years before Jesus was born?. The Jews were saying that Jesus is NOT even fifty years old and He has seen Abraham. Could it be that the SOUL/SPIRIT of Abraham is with God in heaven not his flesh and bones?.
