APFSDS Vs Tank Wheels

preview_player
Показать описание
This simulation shows the impact of an APFSDS of type 3BM42 on a tank wheels (tank steering system), more precisely T-72 tank.

Tank steering systems allow a tank, or other continuous track vehicle, to turn. Because the tracks cannot be angled relative to the hull (in any operational design), steering must be accomplished by speeding one track up, slowing the other down (or reversing it), or a combination of both. Half-track vehicles avoid this by combining steerable wheels and fixed-speed tracks.

Tell me your opinion about the animation at the beginning of the video.

Size of the dart seems messed up, and there is no way a 3BM42 would disintegrate that fast hitting a sprocket, gotta check the properties of the sprocket and dart itself

This feels like shooting a deer with a 50 BMG and bragging about how effective it is

How thick is that APFSDS?
It should be something around 30mm, and in simulation it looks as thick as 76mm shell.

bro what's that apfsds fired from? a 203mm gun???

theres absolutely no way a 3bm42 dart is that big

is it possible to simulate with the track in motion?

If you hit the actual axis of the idler wheel, that will definitely stop the tank

Here's a fun real-world data point: A Browning M2 .50 cal machine gun, loaded with AP rounds, can strip the tracks off most modern tanks with just a few seconds concentrated of fire.
Tracks are tough, but they aren't nearly as thick/strong as the hull!
Road-wheels are the second target, but because there are so many, you'd have to corrupt about 1/2 of them to immobilize a tank.
A great General once said" "To win the battle, all you have to do is prevent the enemy from moving when and where they choose."
A tank with a busted track aint going anywhere during a fire-fight!

Для того, чтобы лишить танка хода повредив ходовую часть, совсем не обяз.исп.средства с высокой бр-пр. А такого прикола не понимаю, и даже интересно, что автор хотел этим сказать.

the t-72 track width is 58cm. Knowing that you can measure the dart in this simulation to be about 65mm in diameter which is twice the actual size. This simulation is not correct

Why is the dart spinning? It came out of a smoothbore gun.
