That still makes sense, yesterday my solid Qf-17 pounder gun cannot pen side armour of panther because the plate that connects the side skirt and side armour has 900 mm of protection

In fact, WT is not totally wrong about that... after the first contact with a object, an apfds loses stability (especially if the you use a smooth bore gun) so it means that the round may not hit the target with tip first... which reduces to nearly 0 the armor penetration...

that's why the Leo 2a5 has cheeks and ears...

It doesn't have to stop the penetrator, it just has to induce yaw or even break up the rod. The one weakness in APFSDS is that its more "delicate" than just dumb cannon balls. So I'd give this one to the game engine.

that metal bar has nothing on the bulletin cylinder made of simpler stuff, just ate my APFSDS like it was made with some black hole shield or something
