This simulation shows the impact of a 3BM42 "Mango" APFSDS-T with Tungsten Alloy penetrator being fired from a Russian T-72B tank at a range of 1.4km, targeting the front side of a German Leopard 2AV hull.

The Leopard 2AV was a prototype tank developed by Krauss-Maffei in the 1970s as a potential replacement for the Leopard 1, which was the main battle tank of the German Army at that time. The "AV" in its name stands for "Austere Version", which means it was designed to be a simplified and less expensive variant of the Leopard 2.

Despite its promising design, the Leopard 2AV was not selected for production by the German Army. Instead, they opted for the Leopard 2A1, which was a more advanced version of the tank with improved armor, a more powerful engine, and a 120mm gun.

For anyone wondering the leopard 2av essentially has no composite armor. That is why the mango round went through it so easily

This is not the more well known leopard2A4, but the leopard 2AV, a lesser armored prototype with an autoloader.
The 2A4 isnt even the latest german tank, so i dont get why people have these arguments.

In war thunder Leopard 2a7v has extra external armor in front of the composite armor unlike a4-a5-a6-pso which actually holds pretty much every apfsds (from top tier mbt's)
Is that modelled here or is it just the composite armor alone

So many people saying the author is a coward for not showing the penetration. These type of people dont understand what it takes to firstly process a similation, but at the same time dont realise the Leopard 2AV was a prototype, and not the Leopard 2A5

Tbf NATO doctrine focuses more on defense thats why the abrams, leo and i think challenger all have thinner hulls compared to their turrets because they were made to fight defensively using hull while the soviets focused on attack with lower profile and speed though with thin armor cause of speed
