How to Fix a Wood Shelf using 3D Printing and Tinkercad

Chuck fixes a recycled wood shelf his wife bought at a Salvation Army using his 3D printer. The shelf was missing a way to hang the shelf so he designed a custom insert using Tinkercad allowing him to hang the shelf flush to the wall with a couple screws. He printed the inserts using Inland filament on his $154 Low Cost CTC 3D Printer.

Great work Chuck! That's exactly what I like the most about 3D printing: practical prints! And as you say: happy wife, happy life! Have a good weekend!

Awesome thanks Chuck. And it was nice chatting with you at MRRF.

I loved the practical technique mentioned with the cheap printer Chuck! The idea that the expected excess roughness that normally would be frowned upon is actually a wanted feature in the case. Not something most people would take into consideration. Once again great video Chuck

A cool add to this, you could create a pin point, using a small cone, on the mount that after you put these in shelf, push it to the wall & it would create marks in the sheet rock to give a identifier for screws to be placed.

Really nice!
I cant think about many things I could do with a 3D printer but I guess you just need to have one and stumple over some small problems to get an idea about how usefull it can be! :)
Really looking forward to your Fab Mini V2 videos!

My Father always said the key to a long happy marriage is the words "Yes Dear", you have found another occasion to say it, "Honey can you fix this" "Yes Dear I can 3d print a part"

Chuck you're a 'master' with TinkerCAD. I make way way too many mistakes to design anything in a non parametric program. :-)

Haha "I'll use my $154 Low Cost printer because I want this thing rough".
This moment when having a non precise printer is actually helpful!
Note that Cura has this experimental feature called "Fuzzy skin" :)

what is that plastic thing you inserted in the wall ?

Should have printed them vertically so that the force pressing down on the shelf can't split the layers apart.

Chuck I'm sad we didn't connect at MRRF, I hadn't heard of your channel before and Aaron Brown was telling me that you are west michigan local. I am planning a 3d printing user group/meetup with some other locals in grand rapids, I am guessing you would be interested, simple domain setup right now. We are aiming for the 4th Tuesday of every month with speakers and networking planned. We want it to be very structured and not like a club
