How’d you get it to stain? I put some bondo wood filler to fill some rotted hardwood flooring and tried using some oil based stain but no luck (even tried with a coat of paint on top)

Did the stain bond? That's the question I have. I ripped railings off my decks and put on vinyl. So the band wrapping around the deck has holes from the old railings. It's going white, so I can't habe all these holes and got minwax wookfilller and I'm curious if the stain bonded. Was thinking of brushing a coat of wood glue over it so I know the stain adheres.

would this be strong enough to fix the edge of a step which is worn out (shallow 5mm erosion). Or would it come off when you step on the repaired edge?

Handrails are structural members that should be replaced and not patched.

replace the board, I can understand not wanting to replace a window sill high up, or roof facia board that has a slight blemish, but... A deck board right an eye Comon man replace it

What a putz. Didn't even remove the rot. This on a support for a railing. Would have been easier to to the proper repair - remove it and install new wood.
