Easy No Spread Cut Out Sugar Cookies | Just 5 INGREDIENTS!

These sugar cookies are buttery and tender-crisp. They are made for cutting out into shapes as they hold their shape very well when baking. The dough is super easy to roll out and cut – and you only need just 5 basic ingredients. The cookies won’t puff up, so they are perfect for icing and decorating as you please. They are wonderful to serve plain too. NO SPREAD. NO PUFF. JUST 5 INGREDIENTS!

You'll need:
• 1 cup (225g) salted butter (room temperature)
• 1 1/2 cup (180g) powdered sugar/icing sugar
• 1 large egg (room temperature)
• 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 1/4 cup (422g) all-purpose flour

Cool completely. Serve. Enjoy!

:: HELPFUL HINTS ::

* Number of cookies will depend on cut out size and how thick you roll your dough. For thinner cookies, roll out your dough to 1/8" and 1/4" for thicker cookies.

* Bake thinner or smaller cookies for 8-10 minutes.

* Measure your flour correctly. Adding too much flour will result to crumbly texture or sandy taste when baked. Fluff the flour in the container before scooping it out. Lightly spoon the flour directly into the measuring cup until it mounds well above the top of the measuring cup. Using the back of the dinner knife (non-serrated side is facing the flour), sweep the knife over the top of the cup to remove the excess flour.

* Let your cookies cool completely before frosting them. If they are not cool, the icing will melt.

I baked these cookies for the valentine's day and they were AMAZING! I used granulated sugar instead of powder sugar but it still worked

I tried this recipe December 2024, it’s a lifesaver and this recipe definitely works! After watching over 20+ videos this one has to be the best sugar cookie video! I however only used three cups of flour instead because it was looking a little too much crumbly for me, but it still worked because my cookies tasted good. This channel need more baking videos. If someone can recommend me an icing / frosting video i would appreciate it. Thanks 🍪 ⭐️

I will tell you how wonderful this recipe is. I’m making Autumn cookies with my toddler and I had to put the dough in the fridge for 2/3 days before cutting shapes out. The first batch I made was in the oven only and they came out perfectly shaped, no spread and no bubbles and tasty. For the second batch, the oven stopped working halfway through. I ended up trying to bake them in the microwave after half baking in oven. After I got the oven to work again, I put them back in there once more. They came out perfectly shaped, albeit with a few bubbles.

This recipe is a life saver!!! I love decorating cookies, however I’m not the greatest fan of sugar cookies. I’ve taken local decorating classes and their secret recipe was just ok to me! This recipe is easy and was a joy to make! I added a touch of almond extract and were so good! I needed to make 30 cookies for a fundraiser and they all turned out so uniform! This is my new go to recipe! Now I can enjoy making cookies every holiday for my granddaughter and me to decorate!!! Thank you so much!!!

I finished making the dough and for some reason mine was dry and sandy, nothing a little water didn't fix! It smells AMAZING and am patiently awaiting the moment we can bake and taste! I love how you bake and after watching a few videos I'm staying!

Echoing other comments about this actually being a "no spread" recipe, these are fantastic! We were so excited to make them that we didn't see the part about chilling the dough, but the cookies turned out perfectly crispy. We pressed sprinkles on top before baking to give them a festive look.

This recipe is incredible! I've made three batches in the last two days and they turned out perfect every time! I only chilled for an hour and then cut the shapes out and cooked immediately and they were perfectly shaped, baked well and tasted amazing. THANK YOU!

For anyone wondering about the recipe and whether this really is a NO SPREAD sugar cookie recipe, well yes, yes it is. The taste and texture is similar to a shortbread cookie, its a no fail recipe. Also very forgiving. I would not recommend using granulated sugar with this recipe, although it would still be absolutely delicious, because the texture might change just a a little bit. You could add powdered milk to make it creamier(this is just my preference). And I use salted butter because this kind of recipe really needs it, balances out the sweetness from the sugar. Overall a great recipe.

I tried these today and they tasted very good! They really didn’t spread so that was good 😊 if the cookies are thick, bake them for 12-13 minutes but if they’re thin, I recommend 8-11 minutes!
