I really hope Nvidia's greed backfires.

Don't let this distract you from the fact the shader gap between the "4080" 12gb and 16 is larger than the gap between the 3080 and 3090ti that all used the same 102 die.

I honestly think that the horrible price to performance on the renamed 4070 is there to make both the 4090 and the last gen 30 series cards look like a better deal by comparison. I remember this trick from the movie theatres where the medium soda would cost almost the same as a large while being smaller. Your brain would be more "ok" buying the overpriced large soda focusing on "at least I am not being ripped off as much as the medium"

Opportunities like this don’t come around often, hopefully AMD takes advantage.

We’ve been waiting for the “market to correct” since the first crypto boom during the 10 series. Then the 20 series came out with bad price/performance, the 30 series was sold out, and AMD prices just follow in their footsteps.

I think people are gonna be disappointed when AMD announces the 7000 series and undercuts NVIDIA by only $100

I went to lunch, pulled up the news on Nvidia's new cards, saw the pricing... thought for a second... and stopped caring about Nvidia. The pricing is ridiculous. And the features are not enough to get me to buy a card at those power draw levels. I can't agree more w/ Coretex's price analysis. And cost of ownership will be insane! I hope AMD's cards have a much better performance per watt... b/c I'd eat one of those up in the next year or so if they are priced right and can keep a mini-ITX build under 1000W.

With the demise of EVGA, I think I'll be into AMD for my next GPU. Hopefully RDNA 3 doesn't disappoint.

I remember from your previous videos how Nvidia is likely to push hard for the Omniverse. Well.. we all saw what happened yesterday. Looks like they are betting hard on it and like you said in the past.. gaming segment is less and less important for them

100% agree with you.
After >10 years of Intel CPU, I switched to AMD 2 years ago.
Have been using Nvidia GPUs for >10 years (currently running a 1080ti) & no way am I getting suckered into the scam prices of the 40-series.
It'll be down to AMD once again this November & I really hope they can provide a reasonable price for RDNA3.

In Europe the official price for the 4080 is 1469€ and 1099€ for the 4070 aka 4080 12GB.
That's literally more than double over the 729€ 3080 and 519€ 3070.
Also the new "80" cards are massively cut down, more than ever before.

They lost all touch to reality!

Cant wait for the AMD GPU releases. I want to build a full AMD rig with the v cache version of the 7950

I totally agree with you that this is AMDs big shot to gain marker and mind share. If AMD follows nvidia's pricing or only charges a little less I will be greatly disappointed and more hesitant to buy a GPU at those high prices. My gtx1080 has served me well and will continue to do so if these insane price hikes happen with AMD too. I've been planning to get and RDNA 3 gpu for a while now, but pricing will be a deciding factor.

A point I keep repeating to my friends, the 7-Tier pricing over the generations..
970 was $330. 1070 was the first generation Nvidia made FE cards, MSRP was $380 and $450 for FE. 2070 was $500 and $600 for FE. 3070 didn't have MSRP, but $500 for FE and was immediately and effectively permanently out of stock (likely, but not confirmed to be, redirected to mining firms willing to pay bidding game prices instead of the obviously undershot pricing) and 6 months later the 3070 Ti very marginely better but was $700. And the -4070-, wait I mean the 4080 (12GB), is $900. I .. just .. man, what the hell Jensen!?

Bro this vid was seriously hooking and well presented. Thanks for your solid take and for encouraging gamers to keep the integrity of the market by protesting with our wallets. Keep it up, you earned a sub!

Been an nvidia customer since 1999, buying mostly their gpus since but this announcement has left such a bad taste in my mouth I'll stick with the 3080 I have and see what AMD brings to the table in November and if they also price things at insane levels I may stick to second hand cards a gen or two behind from now on.

When the working class and lower middle class either can't afford or simply refuse to fork over a month or so income for what should really be several hundred bucks lower those sales aren't going to be a great period as most will just buy used never looking back. Personally I haven't bought a card at retail in years and the last that I can remember was a decade ago but anyway Ngreedia has really gotten out of control so no surprise why EVGA divorced themselves from Ngreedia. Hope things work out for Intel's ARC as Ngreedia isn't going to change their ways anytime soon.

Calling it - RTX 4080 will be remembered next to the GTX 480. Powerful, but too power hungry and too expensive.

Here two years later to say this in fact did NOT happen.

I've been mostly on Team Green since 2000 but I'm honestly considering an AMD Card this time.
