The cheap one also looked to be unusually old or faulty dry at the opening. Always get rid of old dry paste in the neck and use what is left inside.

I kinda wish you ripped off the labels from the two tubes. I recognize them by the color of the labels. Top tube is Noctua and bottom tube is ID-COOLING. Since I've used both myself I could def tell even without the labels. However I personally have only noticed a small difference in thermal performance between the two pastes, as long as you get a good spread from both.

You can tell not only by the way they spread, just look at the "syringe" they In, the one up is an Noctua thermal paste If I see correctly and the one below is a noname 😋

Top is the Noctua for sure based on their signature packaging. Liquid metal pastes often look like the bottom and require more manual spreading. It doesn't mean they're bad, just different formulas.
