Dragons from Game of thrones and House of the dragon are very different from each other and they are said to be of three different breeds but we are also going to talk about their origins, the evolution or how they came to be and also whether Balerion, Meraxes and Vhagar are also quite different from each other.

If I had to take a stab and what the different breeds are designed to do if we go with they where breed with magic I'd say that,

The syrax species is designed for speed and agility in the air with a smaller size and smaller shape

The caraxes species is designed for long distance travel with its long light body, lone wings and extra back leg wings

And the drogon species is designed for pure fighting power with robust body, massive Jaws and powerful fire

Caraxes is actually meant to somewhat deformed, as a young sunfire was shown in the extended trailers he had a similar look to caraxes but not the long serpentine body and neck

I hope this doesn't come off differently than intended, but the dragons didn't come to Westeros with Aegon and his sisters. They came to Westeros with Aegon's great-great-great grandparents.

In fact, Vhagar and Meraxes were born in Westeros, on Dragonstone. Balerion is the only dragon that was actually born in Valyria.

Not trying to be rude. But hopefully offer a helpful bit of information...

Great video!!! Keep them coming...

As soon as I saw the different breeds/subspecies of the dragons of ASoIAF in the new show, I immediately thought that they were meant for different things:
Bulkier breed - Balerion, Drogon, Vhagar, Rhaegal, Syrax
Slim and agile breed - Caraxes, Sunfyre, Tessarion, Meleys, Morning
Smaller breeds, meant for delivering messages and joyriding - Moondancer, Quicksilver

I also believe that Valyrians bred them for specific jobs to assist in Valyria but that they were all bred for war or at the very least could be utilized in wars, be it vanguard, support, distraction, or messengers.

Meraxes and Vhagar were born on Dragonstone. Of the multiple dragons that Aenar Targaryen brought Balerion was the youngest having been born in Valyria several years before the Doom.

Dragons don’t have breeds in GoT verse.

I wish Martin wouldn’t make them die all the time. It is weird to mix obsession with dragons with obsession of giving them dramatic roles.
Though I disagree that Drogon is the last one. We know that some dragons went in absentia. We know there are few more unhatched eggs. We know dragons may be living somewhere far away.

As far as Danny is concerned they’re not beasts. They’re her children.

Drogon is still my favorite, he looks so menacing, imagine him at Vhagar's or even Balerion's size.

Wasn't caraxes said to be deformed? He seems to be the same breed as Arrax and Vermax. Syrax and Sunfyre seems to be the same breed. Seasmoke, dreamfyre, viserion, balerion, drogon and rhaegal seems to be the same breed. But that leaves Meleys who seems to be an entirely different breed, and not only in terms of looks but also her sound design. So it seems to be 4 different breeds (Drogon's breed, Syrax's breed, Vermax's breed and Meleys' breed) of course there can be dragons of same sub species or breed that look different from one another (different bend in horns for example) but the difference is too big for meleys to be related to any of the 3 main breeds unless she or any other dragons are hybrids

Just an FYI - Aegon’s ancestors brought them to Dragonstone. Balerion was one of the five and Vhegar and Meraxes are their descendants :)

I would lean towards the theory of hybridization of wyverns and fire wyrms. I would also speculate that the parasitic fire wyrms with hands and faces that infected princess Aerea were used somehow by the Valyrians to fuse humans with blood of the dragon, like how retro virus is used in genetic engineering to introduce new genes into genome

Its time for them to make a show or movie about Valyria before its colapse and show us a litle bit more of the east lands cuz you cant just put prequel after prequel story in Westeros cuz it will get stale and we already know how it all ends so many of the plotline or characters wont matter to us.

daenerys' dragon eggs are probably the three dragon eggs stolen durin Jaehaerys I Targaryen 's reign. they could be Vhagar and Balerion's hatchlings for all we know.

The rules are different in each fantasy setting. A lot of people base their settings off D&D so the wyvern/dragon thing comes up when it really shouldn't.
However, if we look to the real world "Dragon" is symply the english word for any giant serpintine creature. 2 legs, 4 legs, no legs, 2 wings, 4 wings, no wings All have been hystorically called Dragons, or an ancient form of the word.

Aditional: the only historical distinction between Dragons and Wyverns (pronounced why-vern btw, not wi-vern) comes from historically modern heraldry, and even there they are refered to as 2 winged Dragons.

All wyverns are dragons but not all dragons are wyverns
A wyvern in most fantasy stories (though not all) is just a different type of dragon.
The way I see, wyverns and dragons are both very closely related evolution wise. They’re categorically related. Think of it like this: a bearded dragon and a gecko are both lizards so why make a fuss about the specifics?

No part of me believe they are 'breeds'. Dragons are shown to be sentient, and are talked of as choosing their own mates. They are family lines.

Dragons from the game of throne are the closest as a realistic and that's what I like about these creatures.
