Welcome to lecture 2 of Math 205 ST - Elements of Calculus.

In this lecture, we start off by talking a little bit about what calculus is and how it is used, and then we move on to talking about important skills that one needs to master in order to succeed at this class (and pretty much any elementary (non-proof based) math class).

We then move on to the first topic in our syllabus--Functions and their representations. We define what a function is, and illustrate several ways a function can be represented. We then solved a word problem where we used functions to figure out the optimal answer. A lot of material from algebra and precalc came up...

We will continue talking about functions in the next lecture.
