Hunter The Reckoning 5e is here and its a great addition to the World of Darkness setting. I will be covering what is in the core rule book, what I like about it and what I dont like about it. There are significant changes to the core system to bring it in line with vampire the masquerade.

... You know, I kinda find it disturbing that WoD books went from including a note saying "If you are a satanist or believe you are a real monster please put this book away and go consult someone" to "if you're a neonazi/far-righter, please put this book away and go consult someone."

What do you mean the first few seasons before Supernatural got weird? There only was 5 seasons and no more.
There is no seasons after the 5th of Supernatural in Ba Sing Se.

It has a good base but is just that, if ya want there is 3 others that do everything the reckoning 5e does and more with tons of options for players to play from joe the barman to blade the vampire killer

Sadly no from me. While the game is interesting to listen to, it simply offers nothing of real interest for the price. Here in the USA, it is $38.50 for the PDF alone.

This is a product of the new publishing company, Renegade Game Studios, since they determine the price. Paradox, the writers, usually have no say on the price BTW.

Should have called it Hunter the vigil

Personally, as someone who was interested in the original version of HTR, I'm quite disappointed with H5. As far as I'm concerned, HTV did everything this game did and better. Unless they release a supplement with the imbued and whatnot, I'm giving this a pass.

Any time game companies want to inject the "Current Thing" into roleplaying games and lean hard into it, It automatically dates itself and becomes worse.
If you are specifically making a game around that, by all means do your thing, but Hunter 5e big thumbs down from me.

I mean... to each their own but in almost 30 years of buying RPG books and someone that's bought likely hundreds by this point in my life this is probably one of only five I've been extremely disappointed in. I wasn't even someone who was a big fan of the Imbued, it's not about that, I was perfectly willing to see a fresh take on Hunters but this book is basically one-third of the things in Hunter the Vigil done with wonky broken mechanics and zero monster creation guidelines.

10:30 well you see they denouse it but they still want them to buy their book so they wait till its been read cover to cover before they get round to saying anything, if your going to do something like that you may as well just not bother also matters like this are more for us players to solve, its all well and good to say oh we dont want this but you have to remember that we are still talking about Humans and the Great thing about us Humans is we can adapt and change, instead of just shouting at each other about our opinions we can have reasonable conversations maybe even reach an understanding of the others viewpoint.

ive met a few people that would have been branded with an ist label over the years and most of them were angry over something else that had nothing to do with X Y or Z and if they hadn't been pushed away they may not have become ""bad"" people and nowadays we are even worse at pinning tags on people that think differently than us, we just pin a nice little tag on them and brush them under the rug instead of asking why (granted some of the reasons why? is because they are stupid bigated people that want to Hate and there is no amount of taking that will stop them but others, maybe if they had other less angry friends they would have a way out) oddly season 4 of stranger things DONT WORRY NO PLOT SPOILERS had something similar to this as a subplot, Eddy is running the local D&D club and because its the 80s there is that stigma of D&D is evil (my mum had no idea this happened in the US till i told her that this wasn't just a show plot it really happened) so everyone thinks of Eddy as the worst and he plays into it so that people wont bother him when we first meet him he even scares a teacher by going boo, when we get to know him he is a lovely guy but no one in town ever bothers to try and get to know him because of what they Think he is.

Good overview of the game. There is room to adapt the game into regular WoD or Supernatural or The Grimm etc, which I see as a bonus, some players like one series/setting more than others. You can easily insert Hunter Net & The Messengers into a V5 game.

Seems worthy of a 2nd look (been ignoring it thus far) thanks Nathaniel!

For me personally I'll never play Hunter the Reckoning 5e. I absolutely despise that white wolf made Hunter the Reckoning into a knockoff of Hunter the vigil. I hate the removal of the imbued, I hate the removal of the messengers, & from what I've heard in an interview on YouTube Is that the edges are generic, so you can flavor your character as having supernatural abilities If you want. Which personally seems incredibly half assed to me, If I wanted a game where I'm a normal human fighting against supernatural monsters, I would play the vigil, Hunters hunted, I hunt, or literally any other with this kind of premise. So yeah after learning about this game and seeing the changes they're gonna add to werewolf 5, I have absolutely no faith in the 5th edition of world of Darkness anymore.

I wonder if it expanded upon the Hunters Holy wars, Hunters in the Middle East were unique I hope it gets revisited.

As someone who is barely getting into the hobby, what is the most recent edition for mage and werewolf and where can you get them?

Once Werewolf 5e died in development I lost faith in WoD5

I think the antifa section towards the back of the book is funny for a few reasons;

#1, just the most basic purpose, making unwelcome people feel unwelcome, kind of implies that everybody who isn't outright targeted is welcome. That's a weird standard to set. "No alt-righties but other extremists and terrorists are a-okay! Cut off the infidels head last Tuesday? *Cut off the kindred infidels head this Tuesday!"*

#2, ineffectuality. It seems to me that the combination of being in the back of the book, and targeting a group that gives zero fucks about exclusion, evens out to it just pretty much being a waste of ink and text face.

And #3, irony. Even just at it's most direct, personally I think it's ironic that they just stopped and went, "the enforcement or advocacy of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom is bad, so we are going to advocate for obedience to an attempt at authority at the expense of the freedom to play the game with our permission." They could have gone for a cool statement, gave an anti authority vibe, maybe even wrote that message deeper into the game in and of itself, but instead what they did was try to tell people what to do in the back of the book because they don't like people who tell people what to do (and only inside the book at the back so we can make sure we got their money first)

We are trying to run it tomorrow I'm not super excited for it but the gm is really good so I know it'll be fun

Thanks for the very informative video! It's tipped the scales for me on whether or not to by this core book. I just bought it and I hope to have a lot of fun with it. My group really isn't into the WoD setting or it's lore, and I'm hoping that gives me the ability to run a horror campaign as they discover it's mysteries for the first time. From what I've heard, I like the de-powered approach that this version has over the old HtR.

Honestly I am just getting tired of companies putting their ideologies on their products and feeling it necessary to add warnings and anti hate speeches in Their books. These games, like film, are supposed to be an escape from real life. Lately it's just a reminder to the chaos that we are experiencing every day. And as an old vampire player it used to be clan assamite thats skin darkened with time. How much of this controversy was just due to an aesthetic they though was cool being carried over from the original I.P.? Just my thoughts. I'm giving this a try but don't have high hopes. As someone else stated before. Too many games getting rid of the "class" systems and everything. So everyone can be everything. Unfortunately my players have been turned away from gaming most current systems as when everyone can literally be and do everything then they feel their characters aren't special and interesting enough. Again just my experience and thoughts.
