A very important step was left out here. Always install chipset drivers first because those help to make sure all subsequent drivers are properly installed for your system. Without those, your components/peripherals may not function optimally or at all. May as well update chipset drivers at the same time if you’re downloading drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

Chipset drivers are another often overlooked thing. They often give decent cpu and or IO performance boosts, and can sometimes even change cpu compatibility

Gaming PC owner? This is great advice for anyone that owns a PC period. I've had to fix friends family and personal computers many times over the years. I would use a thumb drive and pre-download all the latest drivers before reinstalling windows.

Also: Update the BIOS. Sometimes it can fix stuff.
EAC wasn't working for me and Fortnite/Apex/Halo MCC were blue screening my computer. One BIOS update later and it's now all okay.

This is actually great advice wish i saw it sooner
I had random restarts of pc for 2 months after match in league every 3rd or so game it would restart without any code or anything inside of pc was a bit dusty so i tried everything with hardware reseating cleaning i tracked temps switching ram sticks and much more

And then after month or 2 i updated every driver there is i spend whole day searching for all drivers i can update
And after that 0 restarts only thing is idk which driver caused it to restart but hey it was drivers of something 😂😂

It is almost always smart to update drivers to newer versions. I can think of few cases where i would not do it. Fx. It makes a software you need in a work environment crash or run shitty. Then i would wait until a fix/update to the program or driver fixes it.
Or printer drivers. If the printer works DONT F*ING touch it, or even look at it wrong. It will break somehow.

My fellow IT (support)workers knows the pain of printer problems.

having resonably recent drivers majes sense. it does not have to be the newest for most cases, but a version that listed as well optimized in discussions.


my pc is a windows 10 machine, 4070S/5950x, so i run the most recent chipset drivers that are windows 10 optimized and not generalized win 10/11 hybrids.

That reminds me of the time I reinstalled windows on my school laptop. Windows typically ships with some default drivers to get a lot of stuff working out of the box, but my laptop's wifi adapter wasn't one of them. Best part: it didn't have an ethernet port, so I had to connect it to ethernet using my steam deck dock. Gotta love windows.

Yea I found out about the Ethernet drivers the hard way with my non-Wifi having Motherboard. Thankfully my roommate has a laptop so I was able to download those drivers, and I took two of my USB sticks and threw new copies of Windows on them for the future. NEVER PAY FOR WINDOWS!!
