This week, we interviewed Werner and Plank director, Roland Plank, who shares how their company has increased production volume by 120% by switching to laser technology.

They explain how laser technology is more efficient, with no tooling changes or inspections needed between jobs, and it can complete jobs faster than a router. They also showcase how laser technology is more cost-effective, with reduced setup time, less material consumption, and more efficient nesting.

Trotec Laser demonstrates how the laser is so powerful it can cut really sharp edge Corner radii with zero radii, and from their experience, they save about 50% of the processing time by using laser technology. They also explain that while each technology has its advantages, by using them together, they can optimize production and make the most of their equipment investments.

With laser there is no concern with holding pieces down with a strong vacuum, you can machine smaller pieces without them flying off, you can cut zero radius because there is essentially no tool diameter, you get a glossy finish with acrylic. With a CNC router you can adjust the depth of cut to 0.01mm and use a wide variety of tools for different tasks. With lasers you have to worry about fumes and fire, with CNC you have to worry about dust and mess. Unlike lasers, with CNC you have the cost of tool replacement, sharpening and calibrating. His final comment really makes the most sense. Each machine has weaknesses and strengths, and you need both to have a versatile workshop.

Great video but a laser is ALSO a CNC... CNC router, CNC laser, CNC plasma, CNC 3D printer, CNC etc...

all good but no one shows power & speed setting for different thicknesses.

They are both CNC; one is a CNC Router, the other a CNC Laser. Please get your nomenclature correct.
