My Amputation Story!

Fourteen years of pain and failed ankle surgeries brought me to 2018, when I made the difficult decision to become a twenty-seven-year-old below-the-knee elective amputee. This channel has documented my journey adjusting to life with a visible disability as an amputee, and continues to be a haven to discuss physical and mental health!

As someone who worked in healthcare, I can assure you “surgery’ed” is most definitely a word 😂

Every noun can be a verb if you don't care enough.

I think you will see good improvement. I have talked to quite a few people at my prosthetists who have undergone TMR, everyone is very glad they did. I realize now how lucky I am to have had it done at the same time as my amputation. My surgeon suggested it and I agreed (Oh yay!). I am participating in a 5-year pain study, and I will have to say that at 16 months It's super managed. Hoping you will finally have good relief. Keep cruising!!

I had a BKA and was 3 days out from getting my prosthetic leg 🦿 when I fell trying to make it to the bathroom at 5am. Needless to say I have an AKA and it’s now fully healed. Now it’s fitting time to see if I’m going to be able to get a prosthetic leg. Man let me tell you how much stress I have not being able to walk, I’m in a wheelchair 🦽 60% of the time and even though my stump is fully healed. The pain is 1000% worse than with the BKA, I have a great support team of friends and family and everyone thinks my story is one for the books but I can always work harder and I understand how I might look and sound like a strong warrior, sometimes I don’t feel it and just want to cry. But I’m sure we all can understand that feeling. I hope and wish you nothing but the best. Lots of love to you and it will always get better.

Your courage and willingness to share this "rough patch" in your life is humbling and an inspiration. Thank-you for answering questions that can't be asked.

Thanks, Jo for the update. Figured it was still painful..Hard to feel joy when you have chronic pain. Pain makes it easy to withdraw and succumb to depression. I know...

I feel you!!! I had a bone infection in my spine this spring, and had peripheral nerve damage. It’s starting to heal, so I really hope your nerves heal too!

As someone with fibromyalgia (nerve related chronic pain), I'm so proud of you and impressed by your ability to remain active and push through the pain. My flare ups make stretching agonizing, so seeing you in action is just incredible. I'm really rooting for you and your continued recovery. ❤
